It would be no help at all.

Watty- when you say it would be no help at all do you mean they wouldn't entertain anyone outside of the area no matter how close? "A computer says no" answer if you like

If the coverage at the edge of the NBS area is bad, then it's likely to be just as bad just inside it...a couple of hundred yards isnt likely to make much difference....unless by moving that couple of hundred yards you move to somewhere in line of sight to a mast.....

    There is NO NBS.

Just Three's mobile phone network running 3G/HSPA. The only difference really of being inside an NBS area is that if speed is below 1.2Mbps (or whatever), you are entitled to get Satellite Terminal. More reliable, but totally rubbish 600ms to 900ms latency, so Cloud services, Ajax, Web 2.0, Gaming, Google Docs etc basically doesn't work properly.

Are you having a laugh watty?:(

Whether we agree with it or not, the state-subsidised increased coverage of three's mobile phone network is called the National Broadband Scheme is it not??

So called is right, but it is not broadband, and never can be. The state subsidised the roll out of a private companies mobile phone network, and did not one thing to improve broadband or Internet access in Ireland. It was a waste of money.

They cannot and will not do this for you. Even if they did, it would not be a great help at all.

Correct and right jor el, so-called is a fair label for the NBS but arbitrarily saying there is no NBS is ludicrous and only causes more confusion for the newbies here who are scratching their heads as to why three are advertising some internet dongles in their area.

It's easy to make a point about the state's foolery in giving three a contract without becoming churlish...

Actually, in my area which is covered by the NBS, a dongle will provide about 8megs down and 1 meg up....for €19.99 per month...which in anybody's terms, isnt bad.

I hasten to add that I am in line of sight to a mast.
