Iomega ScreenPlay alterative with NAS?

I recently bought a 1tb Iomega ScreenPlay as I wanted to have a networked HD that I can connect to my TV via HDMI. The unit is completely useless networked, the speed of the connection makes it pointless and extremely frustrating to use. The Video playback was fine it just took 1 hour to copy a 1.2 GB video file across. It even failed to copy on the first 3 attempts it failed at the half way mark each time.

Anyone know where I can get a similar product with NAS?

I have one of these and find the best way to transfer files in via USB - I transfered approx 300GB last weekend and it took about 4 hours (left it run overnight)
Over you wireless network speeds are poor but to be honest I cant fault it as it streams to all my other players around the house without any issues at all. I find it kind of kills two birds as its acting as a NAS and also as a basic player attached to our main TV
Cant complain really and if you get a reconditioned Screenplay Director from the Iomega factory store(approx 99 Euro) its a steal

There is no way I would use it as a NAS box it is just too slow, I’m really need something with good network speed. You can’t even view a half decent picture on the shared network drive without it locking up.
This looks like the job for me http://wp.bioss.net/technical/external-storage-media-lacinema-classic-hd but this time I am going to do my research, no more impulse buying for me

this has a 10/100 Ethernet for wired network connection same as the LaCie. Have you got it connected via cable or have you it set up wireless? What is your set up?
I really don't see any speed issues with my box so maybe its a Firmware issue

I have two wireless laptops and one wired PC. The box itself is wired into a linksys router and has the latest firmware installed but it is still dog slow. Have tried many combos to try increase performance. I “think” it was slightly better when using NAT but a tiny improvement if any. I tried researching it online I have found just about everyone that wanted it for a remote storage device thought it was pointless. The LaCie seems to have much better network performance but I’m open to correction on that as I still researching it.

Ya similar set up to me
2 Wireless laptops running both running Boxee. Screenplay connected to Zoom 3G Router via Ethernet. I Transfer all files via either a laptop connect through USB or sometimes copy from an additional attached portable Seagate drive which I connect directly to the Screenplay
I can browse all files from the connected laptops on the Screenplay and can view photos, play music etc on the Screenplay that might be sitting on the laptop. No speed issues at all really and it streams to both laptops simultaneously with no issues i.e. I can play 2 different movies on the laptops at the same time (both movies sitting on the Screenplay)
Maybe I am just lucky – maybe it’s the close proximity of the laptops to the router (one laptop is no more than 10 meters away and the other is on the other side of the wall so about 3-4 feet)

Not going with the LaCie LaCinema Classic HD either, again reading alot of reports about slow network speeds.
