Hi all. I have a Ruger 77 mk2 VT in .243 which is responsible for the deaths of hundreds of foxes and was thinking of fitting a sound moderator to it. Mate of mine fitted a Jet Z Compact to his Sako .243 recently and it seems a good job. Was just wonderin if any of you foxin guys had any suggestions or opinions about moderators. Whats the best/most preferred? What brands are popular? Should i go steel or allumenium? Thanks in advance and as always "ITS A SIN TO MISS THEM"

I have no experience with Aluminium, However I want one.

Steel can be quite heavy on the end of the Barrel.

    I currently have 2 Mods

ASE S5 Stainless Adds 4" to barrel length
Reflex parkerized Steel, about double the length but shrouds the barrel.
    No sound difference with either.

the ASE does seem to get very hot very quick though in comparison to teh Reflex, the smaller size may account for this
Not really an issue unless firing 7 or more shots in a burst
    (Mirage in scope)

I would love one of those Roedale Pricesion ones, smaller lighter and lover profile than any I currently own.

    my 2 cents

I'm using an ase utra northstar .25 cal mod on my .223. it's stainless steel so i don't have to worry about rust for a good while. it's light weight, short, slim, and has excellent sound moderating capabilities.
i've had the opportunity to compare it to a predator t8 on a friends 223 and it was just as good for sound reduction, and better for weight and size.
it would definitely do your 243, but maybe a 30 cal mod might offer better sound reduction for you

I had a Jet-Z compact and sold it recently as I found it made the rifle nose heavy, other than the weight it is an excellent mod.
I now have an aluminium roedale mod and it is superb, weighs less than a fleas nut.

I have a Roedale mod, its a combination of alloy and titanium nitrided stainless steel on the two baffles that would otherwise be subject to flame cutting. Very light mod, small as well and makes a huge difference to the noise levels.

i got my a tec aluminium mod for my .243 and i have to say it is the bizz, lightweight is an understatement, compared it sound wise with my .223 and theres not alot in the difference, can b striped down and cleaned and even shortened depending on your setup, obviously it warms up quicker but it is class
