Did anyone else pick up the reference by Ml Martin in last night debate of the bail out having been applied for by the government?
This despite many forceful denials by that same government a few months ago, saying that the IMF etc. were pressing them to accept help and we did not need it. Odd.

You do have to make an application for IMF aid I think. They can wander up to you and cough politely and point at the big puddle of ****e you're standing in, but you have to ask for the mop.

I thought this thread was going to be about Gilmore repeatedly referring to Martin as Minister.

    What was up with that?

I think that was to remind viewers that, despite resigning as minister, he was part of the Government that fncked up the country.

    Seconded.

Seconded. Gilmore actually commented on it himself during the debate.

Why did Gilmore do so badly against Martin?
Is he just not up to debating or did he just have a bad night?
BTW, the media believed Martin won well.

all tactics from Gilmore, you can be sure Eamonn will go for the juggular in the last debate.
The minister reference was an excellent tactic.

Gilmore is an excellent debater, hes just biding his time.

In truth tho these debates are a sideshow.

LOL, you've just given away Eamon's secret weapon.
Are you saying Eamon meant to lose. That's a first.

Yea, but the print media was printed well before midnight last night, and had to form a quick opinion, The more I think about it , what we got last night from Martin was another performance from a man who has mastered the art of talking a lot and saying nothing. Why was he rolled out to the media ad infinitum over the past 3 yrs by FF to bluster away to the masses? Every time they were on a current affairs programme, Martin was rolled out.Last night he did'nt come up with one single proposal as to how he would repair the damage done. Just kept sniping away at Gilmore, who should have gone for the jugular more frequently.
Martin & FF need a good rest of, say, 10 to 15 yrs, before being let near Govt Office again.

Wake up, The debate started at 8pm. Even if it started at 9, the print media would have had time to deliver their verdicts. Technology my friend.

    where did i say that?

the country the way it is and there sheer apathy towards these debates no one really cares.

The constant reference to minister was an excellent tactic.
How can anyone take martin seriously about reform when he was the minister for education and health, laughable!

Gilmore's strategy would be not to look like the agressor.
Why would he come out all guns blazing and then fizzle away in the next debate or else be accused of repeating the same line from the previous debates?

better to snipe away at Martin.

Fine dont believe me, just wait till the last debate, Kenny and Gilmore will be trying to outdo each other to nail Martin.

Why would Eamon fizzle away or be accused of repeating in your opinion?
Surely he's not a one trick pony.

Well look at it this way, if Gilmore came out all guns blazing the lastnite and did it again next week what would the media say?
they would say Gilmore offered nothing new, ie repeating himself.

Kenny and Gilmore on the last debate are going to be out to give a nice detailed history of martin and 14 years of FF.
Martin will try to expose the cracks in FG and LAB.

by that stage Martins work will be done, he will have steadied the FF ship. They will take a hammering but wont get the annihilation they would have gotten under Cowen.
Martin will thus be free to start to rebuild the party.

He will do well in opposition, sniping from the sidelines like the snake he is.
in a few years he will be labelled the guy that turned FF around, exuding charisma, fresh bla bla bla etc.

Basically another Bertie, except imo alot worse!

Im no real fan of Gilmore btw.
