Having look at and tested various mid size mpvs like the s-max, c4 picasso, mazda 5, zafira my wife and I think the 5008 might suit our needs best. We have found a dealer offering '10 models at a pretty good price (i think) of 23,000 for the manual and a 1000 more for the automatic. My question is that I am leaning toward the auto for the extra fuel economy and if so would it be less popular in the second hand market in say 5 yrs should we decide to get something newer and also are the Peugot residuals similar to that of renault (ie sh1te)? Also as I'm a buyer with nothing to trade in how much lower than the dealer's first price should I hope to get the car for if I were to make an offer?

The automatic would normally be less fuel efficient that the manual.

Not in this case interestingly. However, I too am researching this car and the semi auto is reviewed very poorly compared to the manual. They look great inside and out but I felt they needed a bigger engine although the car mags say not. Make sure you give them a try

The Ecomatique is a wee bit more fuel efficient but it is a little jerky. Depends where your driving is really. If you live in bad traffic then it's worth it.

not been able to find many mentions of it to be honest

I tested it yesterday and found it quite weird having never driven one before.
If its only minimally more efficient I'll probably discount it as most of the driving will be heading down the country. thanks

There is a large likelyhood the 2010 5008's you are looking at are ex. rental cars and if that's the case, I'd go for the Auto version - it's harder to knacker the clutch or gearbox on the auto.

Bought a 5008 yesterday, manual, did not consider the automatic although a colleague says that it is quite good. he feels resale of peugeot will be poorer with an automatic gearbox.

Also , for me there is plenty of power in the 1.6 engine , significantly better than the FR-V i previously had.
