Quick Question!

Hi I have a quick question and would very much appreciate any help that can be offered.

I am a Seventh Year student completing my A-level examinations in NI but I am a permanent resident of the ROI. I know that a lot of my friends receive educational maintainance allowance every fortnight in NI and I am basically wondering if there is any such maintainance in the south? I'm 19 and just recently my part-time job hours got cut so I'm drastically seeking some means of income to do me until Sept when I will be making a claim for a student grant.

If I were to hand in my notice in my current employment, could I apply for Jobseekers allowance or could I do that whilst working already? My current job consists of 4 hours a week, around 20 quid, so highly insufficient. I study 9-3 weekdays, regular school hours, so don't know whether this effects my ability to claim for some form of benefit.

Any suggestions will be greatly appreciated.
    D

Full time students can't claim any social welfare. Also have to be out of full-time ed for 3 or 4 months before you can claim.

Assuming you use an NI address for your northern school surely you could have just applied for EMA there?

Failing that there's nothing you can get, get looking for another job. If it's Derry City you're in there's always vacancies despite what you might hear. I know a few bars and restaurants round Buncrana need staff too if that's where you are in ROI.

I don't have an NI address so don't qualify for EMA.
It's actually Lifford in Co.Donegal I'm living in at the minute and there's absolutely nothing going in the way of employment either here or in Strabane across the border, not for someone who is in full-time education 5 days a week at least.

    Thanks for the responses.
