Hi can anyone help me and tell me when your item is held by customs what dose this mean .......... I sent a parcel in by ems china , will i get my parcel back of them need your help with this question .............. and can import slimming tables into the country i want to buy them of the internet , there a lot cheaper and I might be able to save some money ... Thank you if you help me on this one I see loads asking question on this .... Please get back to me

If An Post say they have been sent to customs, customs will confiscate the items and will contact the Irish Medicines Board, who will in turn send you a letter requesting information about where you got the items from. In the letter they'll say you can supply the information and they will determine whether to send the items onto you or dispose of them, if the items were obtained illegally they won't send the items onto you regardless. It is up to you whether you supply the information and if you choose not to they can't do anything else about it but expect your mail to be watched from now on.

Thanks very much ... for your reply and helping me , I brought them off the internet , and sent to me from China to Ireland ..... This is what comes up when I track them..... Should or will get this these , or will Customs keep them.....

you baught tabs from china , i think customes are doing you a favour taking them

if they are prescription medecines here in Ireland you wont get them back without a prescription. if they are counterfeit medecines you wont get them back, usually all medecines sent through the post are confiscated and destroyed.

lango read my first post, that is exactly what has happened with your items. They have been confiscated by customs and your information has been passed to the Irish Medicines Board. You will be contacted by the IMB asking you to volunteer information on where you ordered the items, they will say that if you provide the information you may receive your items but you will not receive your items, they will be destroyed. The IMB and customs won't take it any further but expect your packages to be watched from now on as they will want to ensure you don't try to order the same items again or anything else.

People always say this, but I think that is speculation, so here's mine. Look up the numbers, I would think they destroy more than they can possibly keep track of. It's wishful thinking that EMS and an post are efficient enough to actually utilise these blacklists. I've no doubt some people who trade illegally are observed as a matter of IMB/Customs/DOJ investigations, but confiscating black market medication is extremely routine. They are not observing 64,000 households and matching the megatons of mail brought in against every one.

What the OP bought are generally either ephedrine or hoodia extracts, the former being prescription-only and the latter being notoriously mislabelled, misrepresented and impure. EU law says items represented as medicinal have to be packaged in a certain way, accompanied by relevant information, be approved for import, even proven to be safe and effective. Notwithstanding that it's illegal to mail order medicines, people order them and the IMB nets a random percentage of them and incinerates them. As implied in the Irish Times article, they don't even analyse most of them, in practise they just burn them and send out love letters. The chance of getting them back if they are seized is nil.

Also, it's a waste of money unless you're a rat in a study, and probably bad for you.

If they are herbal / natural "medicines", you shouldn't have a problem. You can call them and ask if they need any further info 051 - 862850 (the 051 number diverts automatically to portlaoise office)

As for thinking they'll help you, reminds me of Daire O'Briain - The medical schools went though all the natural products in the world, took & used everything they found worked and discarded the rest - this is then called "Herbal Medicine"

But hey - the mind is a powerful object and the herbal remedy may work via your mind.

You say Herbal medicines should not be a problem however in my friend's case this is how it all started. She got herbs sent to her from the US for Tinnitus, Customs confiscated it. That's not so bad but the problem is that since then she has had a lot of stuff opened, even harmless food she asked her family to send to her from Poland. I believe Customs in Ireland have blacklisted her or was it AnPost that red flagged her? Is this possible at all???
