Argos UK Installation Service

    Just wondering if Irish Sat installers have ever had dialogue with Argos.ie with a view to providing a similar service here.

    Argos don't seem to stock Freesat product in ROI, though this strikes me as odd if there is no impediment on them doing so.

    Their UK price for a Freesat+ installation comes in under €120.00 without box, which seems reasonable value.

    There would also surely be scope for them to offer solutions to Saorview installations if and when more certified product becomes available.

    The FTA/Freesat confusion persists though as disposable income comes under increased pressure and Sky becomes a luxury of sorts, these products may experience a spike in take up.

    I realise many installers may balk at the idea of being sub contracted and there may be many holes in the idea though with some marketing behind it and the legitimacy a major retailer would lend the Freesat product, could it be a runner?

    As far as I am aware they are contractually prevented by their suppliers from selling Freesat boxes here.

    Currys certainly believe that they are not allowed to stock Freesat here. Maplins do, but they may not have noticed this is a different country, given some of the stuff they sell.

    Correct :

    Freesat = UK only.
    Saorsat = Ireland

    Thanks guys, Freesat is not perfect but I'm a great fan of it.

    I'm sure there are the usual legal restrictions in place, though I would have thought thousands of potential customers would be of interest to manufacturers, retailers and those who run the platform itself.

    Just to be clear guys there is no legal impediment to freesat being sold or used here. Its purely a decision of some suppliers. Its probably illegal under EU consumer law to restrict the sale if anything but thats for another day.

    There is a clause in contract of people having a Freesat licence not to promote it outside UK. But it's actually illegal to prevent people buying or using them in Ireland.

    Humax won't supply Freeview HD boxes here directly either. However they can't prevent boxes sold in UK (even wholesale) being resold anywhere in EU. That's illegal. They do just have the right to limit the geographic location where they sell.
