Hi All, myself & hubbie are 2 qualified Accountants both currently unemployed (recently) living in Ireland and are seriously considering emigrating to Australia for a better life.

We have 2 young kids and live in the countryside and we are not sure we want to live in the city but need to have good job opportunities. Can anyone advise of an area/region that we should look at?. We will have to look at schools etc..so lots of advice needed in lots of area's !!

From looking at Visa info, as we have skilled qualifications we would have the necessary points for a permanent visa but we need to have more info on everything before we go down that road as the money is not refundable if we are not sucessful.

Thanks in advance to ye all.

    Hi

First of all don't bother with using visa agencies, if you are both qualified accountants it is a pretty straightforward process, so you can do it yourself. There is a lot of paperwork but it is achievable especially as you are both unemployed so you will have lots of time on your hands. Doing it yourself will save you a few grand.
The only expenses you will have then will be visa itself (about 2000 euro) and medicals (couple of hundred).
The money you give to IMMI will not be refundable but you should get the PR175 visa with your skills so don't worry.
You should be okay for the points as you say so the only way for you to not get visa is if you fail medical or have a criminal past. Anyway you can always book a consultation with one of the visa agencies for 70-80 euros and get some advice just don't let them talk you into using them to obtain your visa, you honestly don't need them. I have heard of some people paying 3000-4000 euro to them!!!

    Are you ACCA or ACA?

There are plenty of opportunities out here for accountants but mainly in the big cities especially Melbourne and Sydney as the HQ's of the big financials are based here. You could go to Perth or Brisbane but you will only be looking at smaller positions most likely, thats not saying there are no good jobs there but not as many.
My wife is ACCA and we looked at Brisbane but there were not a lot of good jobs on offer, we looked at Sydney then and there were loads of good senior positions. Within 2 weeks of arriving (after sending CV to a few agencies a few weeks before we got here) she had 15 agencies contacting her even though we only sent CV to about 6 (they must share info), she was offered interviews with CITIbank, Deutschebank, Macquarie bank (which is the top investment bank in Australia), ANZ bank, Nomura bank and Westpac bank.
My wife wants to do local CA qualification but not having it didn't have any negative effect on her getting a job. All they cared about was experience really and she had good experience. She was offered 2 jobs straightaway and went for 2nd round interviews with 2 others. She accepted one of those positions and is now very happy in her new job.

There are lots of good schools where ever you go and its not like Ireland where you have to enroll when they are born. Here if you live in the postcode area you are entitled to go to that school and there are always a few in each area to choose from.

The whole process will probably take 18-24 months although you could be lucky and do it in a year. Good luck!

    Any other questions?

"but we need to have more info on everything" ... like what? You clearly don't think this information is worth mentioning
Read the FAQ and search the forum - Everything has been answered

If you are a fully qualified accountant then you should have no problem with migrant visa
