    Hey all,

Thinking of going looking at one of these this evening and a quick question for all you Skoda loving Boardsies........ :D:D

Does the 2006 1.9 TDI have a DPF???

I have done a quick google but can only seem to return results which relate to the 2008 model which confirm that the 2008 model does indeed have a DPF but cannot find anything specifically relating to the 2006 model.

I would be doing approx 8-10k km city driving a year and about the same doing a longer trip down home approx every two weeks or so.

Also, any other things to look out for in one of these??? Does anyone know what roughly at what mileage the DMF would need to be changed as this would need to be factored into the equation also?

    Cheers,

    D

Not sure about the Skoda, but my Kia Carens diesel has 175,000kms in 4 years and not a bother.
Meant to say, it has a DPF.

I am not sure about the 2006 Superb having a dmf or not (my guess would be yes) but the failure would depend on the driving style and distance covered. The ones that give problems usually last up to ~80 to 100k.

Pretty sure there is no DPF on that.

    We had 3 2005 Superbs go to 185,000km, 211,000km and 297,000km.

Yeah, think there is definitely a Dual Mass Flywheel on them (stand to be corrected on that though) and car I'm looking at is currently at approx 75,000 miles so am a little cautious about buying the car based on this.

Yeah, think there is no DPF on it alright. Would I be correct in saying that it is the DPF which causes issues with diesel cars and city driving and that I should be ok here or is there more to it than that?

Were the cars you mention above doing mostly motorway / national road driving or a mixture of both this and city driving?

You will need to replace the DMF at some point, but that's the same for more or less all diesels now.

The 3 cars I mentioned all did that mileage in 4 years, so I'm guessing a lot of it was Motorway/National Road, but they were reps for an Agricultural Chemical company, so a lot would have been visiting farms in the back of beyond.

I've just checked the service history of the 3 cars and there is no mention of a replacement clutch on any of them!

Cheers, thanks for that. Anything else I need to look out for on a car this age / mileage?

No DPF on the 1.9 TDi engines. DPF was only fitted to the 2.0 TDi engines.

Have one of these in 05. 130,000km on and no big mechanical problems. I love the car and would advise anybody to buy one while being aware of the faults. The 1.9TDi pd engine is bombproof. Have replaced both cv joints as there are too few pleats on the cv boots and they tend to go hard and crack, allowing dirt and grit in to wreck the cv joint.

The big thing to look for is that all interior lights are working and that the central locking/boot pull is working. Check that the carpets in the front passenger footwell are bone dry. If any interior lights, including the puddle lights under the wing mirrors are out walk away. If the carpet is wet, walk away. The cause of these problems is water ingress around the pollen filter. The seal on this might as well be made from cardboard. It allows water into the passenger footwell, this corrodes the joints in the wiring loom and also allows water into the convenience control module, which is housed under the passenger seat and shorts it out. The CCM cost €332 incl VAT and anywhere from 12-20hrs labour tracing the faults in the wiring loom. I know this cos I fixed my own one about 18 months ago. I did the labour myself but if you were paying a mechanic you would probably be out of pocket to the tune of €1k+.
    Hope this is a help.
