Miserable 2 year warranty on new cars

What makes are still giving a crap 2 year warranty on new cars in Ireland. BMW has recently moved to a 3 year warranty for the Irish market, I think it's unlimited mileage. I think Peugeot are also now giving 3 years, not sure about it or whether it also applies to Citroen.

So what makes still have a 2 year warranty.

    Ford
    VW
    Skoda
    Seat
    Audi
    Mercedes
Opel ("lifetime" warranty doesn't apply to Ireland )

I would have serious reservations about buying one of the above makes. Particularly Ford whose cars generally do poorly in the ADAC Pannenstatistik (breakdown statistics from Germany) At least most of the other makes with poor warranties do well in these stats.

As for Saab - according to the website, its warranty is 1 year or does it mean a minimum of 1 year depending on country? Doesn't fill me with confidence if Saab Ireland can't state this important info clearly/correctly on their website.
    http://www.saab.ie/ie/en/start#/buy-own/services/parts-service/new-vehicle-warranty/

So, what makes give good warranties?
    BMW - see above
    Peugeot - see above? Citroen?
Alfa - 3 year warranty, seems to be limited mileage on some models and unlimited on others.
Fiat - 3 year limited mileage
Volvo - 3 year limited mileage
Jaguar - 3 year unlimited? mileage
Honda, Toyota, Nissan, Mazda - 3 year limited mileage
Hyundai - 5 year unlimited mileage warranty
Renault - 3 year limited mileage extended to 5 years unlimited mileage by a third party
Kia - 7 year limited mileage

Edit: If i have gotten any of the warranty details wrong or you can confirm the details I'm unsure of, please post.

I'm not sure about the details, but in recent years BMW have offered extended warranties for relatively little money. Well worth it, especially for higher end cars like the M3 and M5, just a few years outside of warranty

To me it a longer warranty means that a manufacturer has confidence in its own product.

Or, in the case of Kia and Hyundai, the ordinary punter thinks they're a complete heap, and needs a long warranty before they'll risk their cash.

1 year is pathetic. Must be an Irish special

The Dutch Saab website states an unlimited 24 month international warranty. Just checked the French and German websites and they also state an umlimited 24 month warranty. The UK site states a 3 year 60k miles warranty.

I just extended one yesterday, €730-odd for a 320d. That was for the top one, including rescue and with no excess - there are cheaper options.

How many years/kms is that for? Don't tell me it's for just 1 year!

Just checked the price of an extended warranty on the new Audi A6 in the UK. These are UK prices as I can't find an Irish brochure. Might give some idea of what to expect here.
Audi Warranty, covering you for unlimited mileage in the first 2 years of ownership, and up to 60,000 miles in the
    third year. Transferable between owners
    No charge

EA6 Audi Warranty, covering you for up to 4 years or 75,000 miles, whichever comes soonest. Cover includes a 2-year unlimited mileage
warranty, and up to 75,000 miles in the third and fourth years. Transferable between owners
    £560.00

EA9 Audi Warranty, covering you for up to 5 years or 90,000 miles, whichever comes soonest. Cover includes a 2-year unlimited mileage
warranty, and up to 90,000 miles in the third, fourth and fifth years. Transferable between owners
    £1,335.00

Well I would buy Hyundai over most of the others!
I have an 01 coupe with 100K on it that has never ever let me down I have even sold newer cars and kept it.
mates have mercs, BMWs, the lot and mine is without doubt the most reliable.
next to that would be Honda and Toyota the rest are badge and hassle IMO.

Id take my chances and do wothout it at that price. I assume it ties you to dealer servicing too (perhaps you have service inclusive).

How much is warranty on an m5 then?

well here is a story for you i recently went to a vw dealers in county wicklow to have a test drive in a scirroco..i was trading my 05 mk5 golf and also said to the salesman we have a 08 kia pro'ceed if that was a better deal,he said he would have no problem taking the kia as they are selling very well
.he was from the city in europe where these kia's are manufactured and he said we would be mad to part with the kia as any dealer that can stand over a 7 year warranty had full confidence in their vehicle and that vw hadnt even got the guts for this
so if a vw salesman is telling me not to buy his brand over the kia you have to take note
also the father in law has the hyundai i30 zero problems after 2 yrs of hard driving

Do people not think that maybe its just marketing? The makes with low number of years for warranties tend to have models that are good sellers and have no need to offer long warranties to get people to buy their cars.

    +1
Look at the volumes also. An extra year for a focus could cost ford millions.
An extra year for kia - not so much.
