    Hi guys,

My buddies mother runs a hair dressing business from home and wants to keep a proper record of all her transactions. As she explained to me, she wants to a numbered receipt system.

She gave me a sample of the receipt she wants to use. Its just a basic little thing, with room for the stylists name, the job done, and the price. On the top of the receipt there needs to be a section with the receipt number, that increments with each receipt.

The trickiest part of this whole thing is that she wants to be able to print these herself, as opposed to going to a printer to get it done. Her idea is to save on costs. It was suggested to her that the template for the receipt could be done up in excel and batch printed as required. But how would one go about doing this? Putting together the receipt is no problem, but its the incrementing numbers that confuses me. To make this any bit cost effective at all she would have to be printing a few at a time, i.e 10 on an A4 sheet and then cutting them out. But how would you set the receipt number?

Or, its there any other way this could be done, any programs available that would be specifically for this kinda thing? I suggested a cheap till system but she was adamant that she does not want to go down this route. I'd really appreciate any suggestions anyone might have to how to get around this.

this may be better suited to the technology sections but I'm hoping that someone from the business section might have experience in this.

    Thanks guys

Does she actually want to give a receipt to her customers or is it for her benefit only? If it's only for her then a simple excel spreadsheet would do and she would have to print anything.

well its just for herself, but I suggested something like that, and well she's not overly computer literate so wants it all done on a hard copy. Her reasoning behind doing it herself is that it would be to expensive to go to a printer to get a batch of them made up

What's wrong with a good old receipt book?
Every page is numbered and you can have it in duplicate or triplicate

    That's it exactly.

No need to re-invent the wheel.

Simple receipt book, a couple of quid down her local Stationary shop and she's off and running.

    Hi guys,

Sorry its taken me so long to get back to this thread.

While I completely agree with what you guys have said, and personally think a receipt book would do grand, the woman in questions wants what she wants!

does anyone else have any suggestions as I've looked but can't come up with anything!

If you know anyone who can write macros within excel, I used to use a workbook like this for a client but it was for an invoice that used a whole a4 page

anyway the workbook worked on a series of questions from the main page there would be a button "create invoice" it would auto number the invoice based on the last one ad you would insert the information and the last question would be print and save

it saved all the information to a database style worksheet listing details it was fairly hefty workbook using macros and lookups formulae but it worked

but you need someone who is really familiar with excel to be able to write it for you

    hope this helps
