then rang apple they said its definatly locked to o2

so i asked if i got a PAYG sim would that work she said yes!!

I didn't have to get the original customer to unlock my iPhone 3G. I went to one of the O2 reps in the O2 forum, and asked them. Once there was enough credit/payment gone through against it, they unlocked it, no bother.

Why don't you get the person you bought it from to sort it? Would seem the most obvious route to go, unless it's dodgy of course.

Could it be O2 UK? why don't you ask the person you got it from?

Might want to check that link. It is the link for this thread. :)

On another note. There is no unofficial unlock for an iPhone 4 yet. So the O2 route is the only way to go.
Several suggestions above to contact original owner. Can't you do that ?
