Samsung Galaxy and Meteor internet

I am hoping to get a Samsung Galaxy S this weekend. I'm on Meteor Connect (€50 per month). A friend of mine bought the €5 add on for 250mb of internet (I have no idea what this means!). She told me that she's on the net all the time on it (not in Wi- Fi areas), and has yet to go over the internet allowance. The girl in the shop told me that the €5 add on will not be enough to run the internet on it.
    What do you think?

Im no expert as im new to the smart phone generation since December
    I bought a samsung apollo.

Anyhow i didn't do much with it in Dec or Jan and found my €5 top up was ample.
Then i start downloading apps over the past few weeks and have the internet on a fair bit and today (4 days into my billing month) Ive used over 50% of the allowance

Be careful Keep checking ur balance and all will be good.

    Hope this helps

It depends on you internet habits really. I have 1gb data per month, included in my bill & i've only gone over this once. I would describe myself as a heavy user.

But by changing my habits, using wifi at home & being careful not to download huge apps on the go, it's unlikely i'll ever go over it again.

Personally I don't think 250mb would be enough for me, but it might be enough for you. Just confine downloading to when your in range of a wifi network & keep video streaming to a minimum & you should be alright. Disabling flash in the browser will also help.

Thanks for the replies. I am really new to it all, so have a few (possibly stupid!) questions.
Do I have to download apps like Facebook, Daft, RTE news etc. only once?
Then do I only use up my internet allowance while I'm actually using those apps?
Also, can I plug the phone into my laptop to download things as to use my broadband instead of the mobile internet?
I don't have Wi- Fi in my house.

If you have broadband in your house get a Wi-Fi router and get it hooked up to that, as from now on you will have more and more devices coming into your house that will use Wi-Fi.

You can download some apps to your PC and then place them on your devices sd card for installation but its much easier to use the market on the device.

You need to connect to the internet to download and use apps, you can download apps only once and then use them until you uninstall them.

Firstly, you are making a great choice in going for the Samsung Galaxy S as it is undoubtedly the best phone you can get .... 10 billion light years ahead of the iphone.
you should go on a Meteor Data plan that costs €30 per month and you will get 1 GB of Data, 200 anytime minutes, 200 texts, unlimited free Meteor to Meteor calls and texts + 300 web texts. ... I am on this plan and it has more than enough data because I use free WiFi when ever I can. .... I only used 540 MB of last month's allowance and I watched a lot of YouTube and TV on the phone.
Meteor have a €50 per month plan that gives you 2 GB per month + more calls and texts but my guess is that you would struggle to use 2 GB in a month.
Meteor's coverage is quite good and I get download speed of up to 3900kb/sec and upload of 3200KB/sec.
Tesco are offering 1GB for €6.99 on pay as you go but I am not sure what the coverage is like.
3 has some good competitive data plans but I found that their 3G coverage was poor and their customer service via India was awful.

o2 and Vodafone are far too expensive.

I don't know about eMobile's coverage but they look reasonable.

You won't go too far wrong with a Meteor data package and the Samsung Galaxy S is a really superb phone
