    Hey guys..

So i booked lights for my grandparents to fly to Italy in April.
However my nanny gave me the wrong name on her passport. She gave me her maiden name as opposed to her married name.
According to the aer lingus site, in order to swap names on a ticket it will cost E100, but seen as the first and middle names are the same and my grandmother has other documents using her maiden name will I still incur this charge...???

Or is there any need to change the tickets at all?
I've never booked tickets online before so I'm not 110% sure what I'm doing...

Does she have anything else on the Aer Lingus list of ID with that name?

If you ring them and explain it was a mistake, they will probably change it for free(not guaranteed). I have even got Ryanair to correct a miss spelt name in the past with no extra charge. Be nice on the phone!

I'm not sure, she does have other IDs with her maiden name though.

I had a similar incident with Ryanair. Put my Mum's usual name rather than her baptismal (and passport) name in error (something along the lines of FiFi instead of Felicity).

They were very helpful and pleasant and changed without any charge or hassle.

Went to New Zealand, the wifes passport was in her maiden name, her ticket was in her marriage name, was just told to bring a marriage cert, had no problems, although that was a few years ago!

No sure about Aer Lingus but Ryanair normally charge (no surprises there). However I made a mistake on the name once and called into the Ryanair desk at Dublin and the girl there changed it no problem (though she should have charged). I felt like commending her to her bosses but figured she would only end up in trouble for not taking the money.

If its convenient might be worth a trip to an Aer Lingus desk, not as easy to be nasty to someone in person as against over the phone.....

Best thing to do is call the Aer Lingus Reservation center and put it to the agent. Under the circumstances you may get it done for free, however you should consider that the cost of a name change is €100 PLUS any difference in the fare based on what you paid compared to what it costs now.

In relation to whether or not the OPs gran could use passport and marriage cert, that won't work in this instance as the passport is already in the married name. Generally it's when the flight is booked in the married name and the passport is in the maiden name that they allow you to combine docs to travel.

People love to complain how Ryanair charge for all changes which is simply not true. They charge you if they suspect foul play, if they think you booked for person A and now person B is flying. If they are satisfied it is the same person, they will fix mistakes for free.

The same goes for Aer Lingus. There is a change fee when transferring a ticket from person A to person B. If all you are doing i fixing an obvious mistake, you are most likely to end up not getting charged anything. Do call them up and see what they say. They may be happy enough with your grandma bringing along a marriage certificate.

Note that the objective of such charges is to stop the selling on of seats, not preventing changes as such. Minor changes like John Smyth" to "John Smith" aren't a problem.

Are they on the Aer Lingus list?

Don't wait to get this change made, if you have just booked it then they will definitely change for free. The longer you leave it the more difficult it can get. I used to fly once a week with Ryanair & made plenty of mistakes when booking, I used to book a glut of flights at a time. I rang up once to get a correction done, the guy said I should have called sitting 24 hours of the booking & charged me a smaller (~€10) admin fee. Other times I just left it until I was flying & went to Servisair desk & talked nicely. The sooner you address it the better though.

It's quite obviously not a question of not knowing her grandmother's surname it was that her grandmother gave her maiden name when DigiGal was booking the tickets. For all she knows her grandmother might have her maiden name on her passport.
