Job offer, continue to look?

So today I got offered a job with an large multinational investment bank, I am not as excited as I thought I would be due to the fact I knew I was going to be offered it about two weeks ago. But the start date isnt till middle of next month and involves me moving north.

I have a phone interview (after passing the online test) for an identical job with one of their rival companies that are in Dublin. So I was wondering should I continue on application process/apply for jobs even though the above job is excellent with the only down side is the pay isnt that great?

It looks like I will be offered another job as well but I dont really want that as its not really challenging unlike the job I have been offered.

If you know 100% that you don't want the other job and wouldn't take it if it were offered I see little point in continuing with the application process, unless you have lots of time on your hands and enjoy interviews.

Assuming the offer were made and you would consider it then it makes sense to follow the interview process through.

A bird in the hand is worth two in the bush

Kind of applies, Get one look for more. Don't turn down one in a "hope" you'll get another.

Keep looking until you have a signed contract in your hand.

    Defo keep looking!

Back in August I signed a contract with a very large and "reputable" company. I was due to start on 1st September, but due to redundancies they had made, they asked would i mind waiting 4 weeks. I agreed reluctantly as it was a job that I really wanted in the long term. 1st October became 14th Oct which became 1st Nov! BY then I knew there was a problem, so I rang the Director I dealt with who basically said he had f**ked up on budgets and they had bought companies which meant they were over their wage limit, so would have to not take me on. I said I had a signed contract and he basically said I could sue for 4 weeks pay if I wanted. When i checked it out, it wasnt worth my while. I have since heard of a few companies who have done this, many of whom are very very big.

Basic lesson is that until you start work you dont have anything! I turned down one interview, 2 touring jobs and cancelled starting my MBA for 12 months because of this!

And believe me, looking for work in Nov, Dec & Jan is a waste of time. It is now Feb, and I havent worked since Aug!

    mrbig73 that is horrible!

I have also been offered job that never materialised so definitely keep your options open.

OP UK employment law is different to here so you so research that if you take the job.

@powwow Who enjoys job interviews? :p

@mrbig73 Wow that is horrible, it is also the reason I am asking because I know two people who had jobs pulled from under them. One of whom had signed a contract but he got the job offer about 6 months before he was meant to start.

I was told the contact is being sent via courier and should be here tomorrow and then I have to send it off to London ASAP.

TBH I would be very surprised if the job offer was pulled due to the fact the company has gone from strength to strength after getting a bail out from the US government. Also there is 13 other people who where also offered this job, its a graduate job.

All that said, I still a bit unsure to tell people about it like ATM only one of my friends knows about it. Even though I still get slagged about being in receipt of social welfare.

Anyone who 'slaggs' you about being in receipt of social welfare is a total muppet. Have they been living under a rock the past two years? Do they now watch the news or read newspapers? They obviously are totally unaware of what is happening in our country.

Sorry, I should have explained that more but me and my mates just take the piss out of each other even though we dont really mean it. I just meant I have gotten playful slagging even though I now have a job offer but I have fought off the temptation to say something.

Should I say thanks but ive already been offered a job and decline?

Tell them iv an offer already and see if I can get fast tracked?
