Table Tennis in Dublin?

Im looking for somewhere in Dublin (preferably in the southside) where the public can go in and play tabletennis without having to pay a yearly membership. I dont mind paying to use the facilities but I dont want to sign up for a year as its only really for a once off grudge match between myself and a washed up ex-school champion (apparently) who is also canadian. can anyone point me in the direction of a decent (or indecent) sports hall or leisure center that will host this highly anticipated game?

    Cheers

There is a proper table tennis room with two tables in the ALSAA that im sure would be ok to pay and play as long as you rang in advance to arrange.

Whats the current head to head record and whats the prediction for the grudge match after all this time?.

No I just called them up there I have to become a member to use the facilities!

The grudge is 3 years of smack talk between the two of us the score is 0-0 but Im getting a trophy made up and planning on making it a twice yearly game. The difficulty is finding a venue with standard olympic sized tables that will let us pay per play but also allow about 10 of our mates in to see it. Im starting to think ill have to buy my own table!!!

They must have tightened up further. I know you can play snooker without being a member i i just assumed. I used play table tennis there a good few years ago but i always went with a member!. Funny thing is that it was never used anytime we played there. Elitists that place anyway!.

Heres a list of clubs in dublin. ESB Sportsco would be the most likely id say.
Most clubs would be cautious over the phone and give you the 'sorry club only' line but id actually say you would have a better chance of dropping by in person and asking about turning up another day to play. These places change their tune in a lot of cases when they actually see you face to face and see you arent an axeman or something which they couldnt tell over the phone!.

ALSAA has a good setup but the receptionists in there are arseholes and have been since i started going there when i was a kid. i played for the club there. the only way ull get to use the facilities is if you pay the yearly membership.

alternatively, another club i played in in finglas in the oakwood community hall has/had 4 tables. http://www.mypois.ie/mpoi.php?n=oakwood-community-centre&i=140409&PHPSESSID=05e67cdce94d5f01cf6993242f4d4520

try get in contact to rent that hall would be ur best bet. you could bring in as many ppl as you wanted aswell!

Other than that, most community centres have atleast 1 or 2 tables, call ur local one!

EDIT: sorry just seen southside. :) alternatively contact tommy at http://www.tftt.ie/index.htm (my coach when i played) he sold me a table for 30 pound when i was about 10 :) he might have some second hand ones.

Any luck in finding a place to play? I am livingin Clondalkin and would also love a game at times without joining a club. Maybe we should open a pay and play table tennis hall? There would appear to be a hole in the market!:)

Please see http://www.DublinTableTennisAcademy.com/ which accepts payment per session, as well as membership.

Other club I know: http://sites.google.com/site/dundrumttc/ - membership, however only for the TT, not doubled as in ESB (SportsCo+TT).

See also map of TT clubs at http://maps.google.com/maps/ms?msa=0&msid=108025076645474079586.00046c10487284bf237a0 and club directory at http://www.tabletennisclubs.com/ - but better contact somebody from the club before going there... some might be out of date.

Anyone have any luck finding somewhere you can just turn up and play (like a pool hall, but table tennis?) looking for a friendly game myself, maybe just a once off, so don't want to join any clubs and would just like to turn up, say between 09:00 and 18:00 some time and be guaranteed a table, even with a little wait.

Is the table in Gardiner Street still standing?

You can now pay per visit in Dundrum club, but it's not open during the day, only after 8pm. The other club I've mentioned in previous post is now closed.

Thanks for that, sent Pat from Dundrum a text and he wrote back saying Mon and Fri from 8, but closed until Friday week for Easter.

Any other pay as you play, please share :)

Found a pay as you play venue, but it's in Greystones, Co. Wicklow, in the shoreline. €10 for an hour.

Ned Kelly's on O'Connell Street have just opened a table tennis room where you can pay as you go.
