Ive just bought a Mondeo 1.8 2001. I may just be paranoid but it seems sometimes it takes too long/longer than usual for the car to start

About 75% of the time its just a quick turn of the key and its fine but sometimes it takes 2-3 seconds of turning the ignition before it starts,

There doesnt seem to be any other problems, it doesnt seem to matter whether its cold or not and it hasnt failed to start yet but id rather find out if theres a problem before im left stuck

    Anyone any ideas

This is a common problem with Mondeo petrols of that age especially if restarting the car soon after a previous journey. There is an easy solution which is that whenever you shut the car off after a journey, press the accelerator pedal immediately after you turn the key off.

Next time you start there should be no problems.

Cheers, is there a fix to this or am I better to just use your trick? Do they eventually stop or do you think it'll be ok?

Don't think there is a fix for it but I have not looked into it really. I have been doing this trick in my 2002 1.8 for a year now and it's an automatic response for me to press the accelerator down every time i switch off so it's not much bother. It wont do any damage and in my mind its not worth fixing.

I even do it in my wifes car when I drive it out of habit!

By the way on a seperate note, check and make sure the swirl flaps on your inlet manifold are ok otherwise you may have problems in the future. See this thread for details. Listen for a rattle from the inlet manifold which stops if you remove the vacuum pipe at the front centre of the manifold.
