Is it possible to getting a job abroad while living in Ireland? I have tried in the past and got no where. There is so little work here that I see it as my only option. I don't want to and can't afford to retrain.

well,I applied for a job yesterday in Canada and got yes answer already(interview via Skype today ),it's a construction job on working holiday program. In the past I have been getting job offers from UK but was not paid well enough. Now just have to wait for all paperwork ....

Talking about Ireland now..there is no much work over here, low paid and everywhere they need an experience(even to clean the toilets, washing pots in a kitchen, cleaning the streets.

I always state in my cover letter about my salary expectations and to be honest I was not getting many phone calls, however some employers from UK
tried to negotiate that(fair play to them) at least they made effort and was not
    just a number to them

On the side note..I considered moving abroad just 2 weeks ago and during this time I had much more contact with Canadian/UK/Australian employers than from the local ones in the last 15 months

The jobs are there, just not in Eire

I managed it but I was one of the lucky ones.

Got a 2yr contract in a bank in london starting in July. I did have to travel over twice but they paid for flights + accom which most companies I expect, would do if you make it past the initial interview stages

I would say its very possible

What area are you trained in? Last year my boyfriend and I both found jobs in Gibraltar while we were still living in Ireland (Insurance & Accounting). He got the job first and the idea was for me to finish my contract and keep looking, but I ended up starting my job a week after him. We both were flown over for interview and had some relocation costs paid.

I have tried it about a year ago and had no luck. I'm unemployed again (only a few wks) but will try it again.

Heres a website you may find useful

    http://www.creativepool.co.uk/employee/jobboard.php

If you have relatives abroad I'd ask them if you can use their address, it evens the odds a little bit.

Sorry lads i was on boards on my wii earlier and couldnt type out a full message (was using the thing to point and click at a keyboard on screen, was taking ages)

What I meant to ask is what is the best way to go looking for jobs abroad, like good websites or would canada/uk etc have organisations like FÁS that you could contact?

Ive googled a bit but its like taking a shot in the dark. If someone had actual recommendations it might save some time!

Got approached by a London recruiter recently who first set up a phone call with Goldman Sachs and then said they wanted me for a face-to-face. When I asked about the expenses he looked surprised. When I asked again, he started a long rant that none of his clients pay for expenses and that's actually applicants' responsibility as his companies would go bust if they paid for interviewing all candidates who dream about working for a prestigious firm. :P

    I did last October.

I had a telephone interview in August. I went over to Toronto for a face to face interview/meeting in September and I got the job offer toward the end of October.

    I started here mid November.

I had a contact in the company but it still requires a lot of hard work.
