Buying without a service history

Can somebody please enlighten me as to what the best process is if you are thinking of buying a car with no service history??

As bad as it sounds (and I realise it does sound bad!!) the car is in good condition and has low enough mileage. (Repossesed as far as I understand)

Would an authorised dealer be able to run a full check on the car, its history and any repair work done etc? If so how much would this cost?

Please feel free to tell me that it would be crazy to buy a car with no service history.

    Thanks for your help

How much are you spending on the car OP? It depends- if your forking out a lot of cash I would not be too keen on buying a car with no service history.

I would advise on you getting a check on the car yourself. (don't ask the dealer to do it for you).

You can do this on website such as Motorcheck and Mywheels. It will cost you about €20 - €35 depending on the level of detail of the report. If the car has been through an NCT previously it should have a mileage history.

I'd buy a UK car with no S/H(as mileage checks tend to be more accurate). Wouldn't buy Irish, unless it was a friend of the family who I knew had it serviced.

I've bought cars without service history before and hadn't any problems. It is always a decent way of knocking a few euro off. In fact, I think I only ever bought one car that had FSH
