Tethering iPhone 4 with Meteor

I've a non-jailbroken iPhone 4 and want to dump my mobile broadband package and connect through the iPhone instead as I don't use the net much from my laptop. Have been searching through some old posts and I came across this: http://www.volkspost.info/ipcc_fw3/. Does anyone know if this works for the iPhone 4 or if maybe there is a new alternative like it which does not involve jail-breaking? If not, then I presume I just need to jailbreak and install something like MyFi?

Second slightly related question?!! Have been reading recent posts about the 'all you can eat' 360 offer that Vodafone has going for 20 quid a month. This seems too good to be true and out of kilter with all their other pricing plans and those of other operators. Looking at the terms and conditions (http://www.vodafone.ie/terms/prepay/#360_Prepay_Bundle_Offer), I presume they're going to hike up the prices in April??? Otherwise, maybe I should be moving from Meteor!

Your iPhone will allow you to tether, without jailbreaking.

It's in the settings area, you can connect via bluetooth or USB to the iPhone, and then use your data bundle from the iPhone on your laptop!

I suspect you mean "Your iPhone SHOULD allow you to tether, without jailbreaking"? Basically, I got my phone from the Apple store online and the Tethering option is not there under Settings -> General -> Network. But from what I've read on the web, this is the norm as a 'flag' in the phone is switched off by default which disables the Tethering option from appearing.

Are you with Meteor though? If so, where did you get the carrier settings file from? Or are you simply jailbroken?

    bought phone from www.apple.ie/
    went to meteor
    asked for micro sim
go into settings and options there to enter a tethering apn.

Aha! I'd incorrectly read somewhere that the internet tethering APN info defaults to the mobile data APN info, which it would seem is not the case. I've put in the tethering APN info now (data.mymeteor.ie) and after powering up the phone again, a new 'Set Up Internet Tethering' option has appeared. Praise the Lord! :)

Alas... When I tap the new 'Set Up Internet Tethering' button, it says that "To enable tethering on this account, contact Carrier". Have you had this issue? I'm on Bill pay with the internet add-on but would like to avoid contacting Meteor because I've a heard that strictly speaking they don't want people using tethering.

Addition: Have done some research on this and I think it could be to do with the fact that I have the 250MB internet add-on option and not the 10GB. Do you think this could be the issue? I agree, 250MB is next to nothing but I wanted to try the tethering out first before committing to the 10GB add-on!

Houston, we have lift-off! Am now tethering via iPhone. Issue was that I hadn't used the 'my' and 'meteor' username and passwords coz they actually not required for the mobile data settings. Looks like they have to be used for the internet tethering settings though. Interesting issue with bluetooth connection - have Windows 7 which does not successfully install drivers but found a workaround which got it going. Only catch is I have to go to the bluetooth device icon and right click to connect initially to the net... Life's not perfect I suppose!
