Does anyone know when polling of graduates for the Seanad elections will take place? I remember it being a while after the GE - but does anyone know when it will be?

I just came here to ask the very same question. I'd like to get the chance to use my NUI vote once before they get rid of the thing.

If FG abolish the Seanad, as they've promised to do, then there will be no polling of graduates or Taoiseach's nominee's for that matter.

But will they abolish it straight away on coming into government?

They can't just clap there hands be rid of it. There's a process to go through first. And if they don't allow for a new Seanad we get back into a Donegal by-election type situation.

As has been pointed out, they can't just get rid of it. AFAIK there would need to be a referendum.

how involved in the process are all the members of the associations that nominate to the vocational panels are, is it the boards of these groups that are supposed to choose? even if they always end up picking large political party members

which will more than likely pass easily... don't know anyone who thinks it's of benefit to the country

Can't see their being another Seanad election is all if this government lasts the entire term...
