Splint and acid erosion

    Hey

I hope someone can help. Basically I have acid erosion and have had for years, and the dentist doesn't know whether its caused by intake of acidic food and drink or acid reflux. I also have a bad clenching issue and so I need to use a splint at night. I was told that using the split (it s a soft one BTW) could make the erosion worse if it was caused by acid reflux but I was doing so much damage with the clenching it was decided it was worth the risk. Well, I've been wearing the split for 2 months now and it helps the clenching but my teeth look awful. They seem to be going really transparent at the front and very yellow. What should I do? Go back to the dentist? It's so bloody annoying having both problems and not being able to fix one because of the other.

Firstly your dentist needs to determine the cause of erosion and treat this. Sounds simple however it may not be. Saying that it is usually possible to determine a cause of erosion and TREAT it. If you need a splint then you need a splint, there are various designs and a soft one is usually not the answer for a clencher.
So thats the erosion and clenching treated now you need to discuss your treatment options to improve the appearance of the teeth, this is almost always possible.
    Good Luck

Find to cause, acid can pool in a splint overnight and make things a lot worse. Find the cause, treat the cause then fix the teeth.
