    hey guys and gals

every so often when i turn on my laptop at college i connect to the network but it then asks my to log in for me to use the wireless. i have tried my college number and password but it doesnt work.

this happens only sometimes. other times my laptop just connects and im free to use the net as i please.

im not the only person experiencing this problem as alot of people seem to have this issue.

i was wondering is there a way to stop this happening or if this happens at a certain time or what the issue could possibly be???

any help would be really appreciated. i know the college have lots of computers free to use but while i use computers alot at college its just easier work-wise to use my own laptop. this way its harder to lose work.

Your password could have expired. The only way to change it is to login to a college computer and change it there.

not anymore. you have the option to change it from moodle when outside the college now.

I assume you just have a windows machine? I have a Mac so I never have this problem. AFAIK it works of MAC addressing the reason you may have to log in again is just because you might not have been logged in, in a while, and your session may have expired?....

Just to clarify, you will never have a problem connecting to the wireless, (you can use moodle without having to log in via Cisco), logging in, is just to allow you go on the internet in the college (and so they can track what you are doing) ;).

At the moment there is an issue in the college where all the available connections are gone by early in the morning. At the moment computer services are working on it and appear to be breaking the wireless network up into the various buildings

Which is annoying if you're moving between buildings :(

wireless seems to be fixed, but im not sure for how long. the original issue is a problem with the number of available ip's. hopefully this is sorted out now.

well with the additional access points it seems easier to connect.

hopefully they added additional subnetting and increased the ip ranges.

Does anyone have the know-how to write a small script that would run in your browser to auto-provide your details to login to college Wi-Fi. So instead of seeing the login page, you just go straight to your homepage.

Would save a butt-load of time

Happens to me every now and then. I could be in the library and I can connect no bother. Ill go over to the it building then, and cant even pick up a signal. I could be something to do with too many people on the network.
