    Hi,
I bought an expensive coat which was on sale in Brown Thomas only to find that the buttons are about to fall off . To add insult to injury it was made in China. Considering the price, I would have thought it was made in Europe/USA. I may as well have gone to New Look.I expected better quality from Brown Thomas to be honest.

Can anyone reccommend any good wearing clothes or brands that stand the test of time but don't break the bank? I am really sick of loose threads, unfinished hems and barely attached buttons!!!
    No more overpriced RAGS!
    Thanks all!

The source is never an indication of quality. Top brand names do not automatically equal good workmanship and outlets notorious for cheap garments doesn’t mean you are getting shoddy work. All you can do is judge the quality before you buy the garment. Check the stitching, the hems, the buttons, zips. If it's poor then don't buy it no matter how appealing or desirable it is.

Thats not going to happen is it? We will still fall in love with that jacket, shoe, suit, hat or whatever and no matter the price or quality once we think of it as gorgeous we'll buy it and suffer the consequences. If I sound a tad bitter it's because I've just noticed the hem of my new trousers is down. :o

If I bought it in Penney's or BT's, I always tighten the buttons on a garment before I wear it for the first time. I hate loosing buttons, especially if I'm not going to find a replacement easily.

As Old Goat says you just have to look out for shoddy stitching or zips before you purchase.

What kind of clothes are you looking for OP? What kind of brands did you buy that you were disappointed in?

This is so true. Its like buying something in a size you haven't been for 10 years, but its just so fantastic you can't leave it behind.

I really like the shape Karen Millen clothes give me, but again its the made in china tags.

The own brand stuff in the Kilkenny shop was made in Ballymount when I worked there.

Quality issues arise with every brand, it show they are handled that makes the difference, even clothes I have made have worn in ways I wouldn't have foreseen and I have to make repairs.

I would rate Warehouse are v. high on the high street but most stock bar knits are from SE Asia.

I can't think of any other high end I worked with that was not made in Asia, most repairs were carried out Ireland and England.

John Rocha RTW (Not the Debanhams 'version' )was v. well made esp the tailoring and draping but It was a very small range, 12 pieces max per season.
