Are you an owner or have experience with this car. I was going to buy the scenic but recently decided I may go for the Grande. What I am wondering is Will the 1.5 dci or 1.6 be sufficent. I have driven the scenic 1.5 and happy enough with its performance for what I need. But wondered would there be a major difference in the Grande?? I am looking at 04-05 models.

Don't these have only 85 bhp?

If that's the case then I'd give it a wide berth - it will be hopeless.

I reckon the 1.6 petrol wouldn't be up to much either.

Try finding a 1.5 dCi 106 or else a 1.9 dCi (I suppose Ireland being Ireland, both of these engines are as rare as hen's teeth:rolleyes:).

The 1.5 dci has 100 bhp and the 1.6 petrol 115 bhp.... what you think on that. I really got to get a test drive. But you thoughts are appreciated. The 106 are the newer 2008-2010 models.

I'm pretty sure they were selling 85ish bhp 1.5s - the regular Scenic and of course the Megane certainly were available with such a low output until the end of last year - now up to a startling 90 bhp:D!

I don't ever remember Renault selling a 100 bhp 1.5 diesel - I remember there being 65, 85 and 105 versions though. Maybe the Grand Scenic only had the most powerful - in which case that's a bonus, especially as it would mean I'm wrong (and not for the first time):D, but my suspicion is that the 85 version was available as well, and if it was, then that's what most models in Ireland are likely to be.

The 105 should be ok but I think even that would struggle with seven people and all the paraphanaelia on board - it will still be a better bet than a low torque petrol though - even the 85 bhp diesel is a better proposition than that for an MPV:)!

The 105bhp is fine in the Grande, and the 1.5 would obviously be cheaper to run and tax than the 1.9, also no FAP/DPF in the 1.5 which is a big plus.

As stated the 1.9 will be very rare here and comes with the potentially troublesome FAP/DPF.

Avoid the 1.6 petrol, slow and troublesome.

Would you consider buying in the UK where you will have a much better choice of 1.5 diesels?

    I have a 1.5DCi Grande Scenic '10 D reg.

The engine is fine. It is definately gutless in 1st and 2nd, and having 6 gears means you are doing a bit more shifting, but this is a family bus, not a racing car.

The higher gears are fine. I took it to Germany last summer and 4th 5th and 6th are all perfectly fine with no issues.

It's just a bit slow away from the lights, but then again, most people just potter about anyway and I have never noticed it being a problem in any way.

The Grande Scenic only came in 106BHP. Oh, just realised you are looking at older models...

I'm pretty sure the top end diesel engine used to be a 101bhp 1.5, thats whats in my Clio anyway, same engine across the classes...the 106 was the newer version brought in around 2008 I think.
