Hi guys i was in my Local on saturday nite & in come 2 Charity collectors said on their Caps & Tshirts St Lukes Hospital they even got the house Dj to do a request for them...Most of us gave something,
Just thaught it was a bit odd to be coming into the pub at that hour looking for donations bit suspicious IMO
Or perhaps its common practice for charitys to be collecting at these times.!!

Childline collectors used to head into pubs years ago. Its a little bit annoying but you have to admit, its a no brainer for charities. Guilt tripping merry people into donating!!!!

    haha, Rebel Alliance :pac:

But yeah op. Probably is a con.
I mean what would it take for someone to pull of a charity scam:

    - clipboard
    - printed up t-shirt
    - printed up cap
    - printer for logo, stickers etc.
    - passport photo + laminating machine (for fake id badge)
    - plastic bucket with logo slapped on for "donations"
    - hard neck and "flexible conscience"

what ... 80-100 euro total? if that?

It sounds like something that used to be done years ago down here known as "the biddy" (as that is used to happen around St. Brigids time) it would be used to collect money for charity/the GAA/local fundraisers etc. And would involved several people often with an accordian and the idea was to storm the bars and play a few tunes and sing a few songs also! Most likely it has died out now though!
