Dropping module and picking another for next year to make up for it...?

I'm thinking of dropping a failed elective, and picking up a different stage one module next year to make up for it. Will this affect my gpa next year?
It seems as if all I have to do is drop the subject and register for an extra one next year online, is it this simple or will there be hoops to jump through? In the program office the girl said I could do all this online but it just seems a bit too...easy...if you know what I mean.

As the girl in the programme office has said, you can do it all online. She has given you the correct advice. As is said in the General Regulations (which everybody here should bookmark!) http://www.ucd.ie/registry/academicsecretariat/academic_regs.pdf
In programmes with more than one stage, a student may progress to the next stage of their programme despite having not passed some modules (with grades of E,F,G,NG,I,IX,IP,W,WL,WX,AU) provided the credit value of the modules not passed is at a maximum 10 ECTS credits (see General Regulation 2.3 – student workload norms).

Where modules are carried forward, those modules must be remediated. Students may opt, with the approval of the Programme Board, to defer modules from the stage they are entering, into the subsequent stage, in order to maintain a manageable course load. The total credit value of the modules deferred cannot exceed that of the modules carried forward.

The module will not impact the GPA for semester 1 in Stage 2.
Where modules are carried forward under General Regulation 5.15.3 and completed and passed, these modules contribute to the stage GPA for the stage from which they are carried forward (see General Regulation 5.15.2) and do not contribute to the compensation GPA for the stage into which they are carried forward (see General Regulation 5.9.1).

Pretty much! And since it is substitution, you will have to pay the charge. But I hope they already told you that.

Nope.. was supposed to be 8am... no idea when it'll be now. Although it does say ' morning' so one would have to presume it'll be before 12.

Would anybody know if the failed module will impact upon my G.P.A. when my final degree is awarded or will it not be counted and the new subject taken instead?

Once you complete the substituted module it should replace it fully in the credit summary.

So no, a failed module, once dropped / substituted, will have no negative academic consequences. ( Obviously if the 'new' module is passed )

If you don't intend on substituting this semester do you just drop the subject or do you have to register for the new subject for next year now?

You can't register for it now as registration is only for this period.
