Was discussing mortgage matters with a scatterbrained friend today and he had never heard of trs and thinks he never claimed it. Whats his position wrt back claim???. 200k-ish mortgage.First time buyer. Mortgage commenced April 2003. Thanks in advance.

Revenue state in this document - http://www.revenue.ie/en/tax/it/leaflets/tax-relief-source-mortgage-interest-relief.html#section4 - that claims for previous years are subject to the general 4 year rule.

So he may only make claims for 2007 and later years. Earlier years will be refused by Revenue.
