I am currently watching season 4 episode 15 (Inauguration part 2)and some of the senior staff are wearing hexagonal pins, red around the outside and gold in the centre. What are they? I have tried googling but have come up with nothing. Can any one tell me the what and whys?

Sorry I can't answer your question but perhaps you will be able to help me. My brother gave me the West Wing (complete series) boxset for my birthday. I haven't had a chance to watch it yet. Would you recommend it?

I'll try and watch the episode over the week and see if I can come up with an answer for you.

And yes MrsD007, I would recommend it. Personally I think it is the finest TV show ever written. Great cast, brilliant story lines and beautifully filmed!

Hmmm..... I just caught a bit of the episode on youtube. Honestly I don't know what they are. My guess would be that they are issued to senior staff who go to the inaugural as a way of identifying them. I noticed the Senator that Leo speaks to is wearing a different type of lapel pin, maybe this is because he would be seated in a different area.

I looked on google and staff are issued with lapel pins at different times in the administration, usually when arriving and leaving office so maybe that is it. But honestly I don't know.

West Wing is a fantastic show, with character development in spades over the years, super writing and political intrigue - well worht a watch!!!

I looked around and that was the closest I came to guessing. As for whether it is worth watching I'd say yes. This is my first time watching it all the way through (I tried to watch it when it was on television but was too busy with school/college). Season 4 doesn't seem to be as good as the previous seasons, the dialogue and stories seem to lack a certain energy of the earlier stuff hopefully it'll pick up.
