Issues with new model Mondog

Well my mothers Mondeo, lovingly called MONDOG has began acting up again.

The Ford dealer claims the following has NEVER happened ANY Mondeo before and that ours appears to be the only one to of been built with FAULTS

Its had a string of electrical problems and quality issues however today the latest began.

Its a 2007 new model with 38K Kilometres on the clock and a full service history.

The light switch on the dash now refuses to turn the lights off and following on from that when my mother opened the rear drivers side door it dumped a large amount of water out both inside the car and outside. The rubbers are all fine and the car was never used during the cold snap there should be no damage to the seals.

This is the latest in a string of faults however I'd love to know if either of the above are common?

Its outside warranty which is the first and only thing the dealer said but as it has covered very little mileage I was hoping to get a good will gesture from Ford but I want to be prepared for the 'It only ever happened your car' line which they seem to think is fine for my mother.

Moral of the story: never, ever buy a new car that offers only a 2 year guarantee.

We should kick up stink about that.

    I have on several occasions.

Ford have been added to the list with Renault of non repeat purchases

    .

My 07 Mondeo does the same on the passenger front door only. Have to warn people to mind their feet before getting in. But, the water only gets to the inside if I have'nt opened the door in a week after very heavy rain. It has 165,000Km now and has done that since day 1. The solution....open the passenger door every few days to stop the build up of water.

    Thanks Damien.

I have it going to my mechanic on Wednesday who has dealt with this issue several times according to himself.

As the main Stealer has never heard of it before I'd prefer he done it and got paid the money.

I'll let you know his solution to it if he has one

Sounds as if there is a blocked drain in the door if you open the door as far as you can and look along the bottom you should see the drain hole and make sure this is unblocked.

Damien in you case it could be a block drain and a torn membrane (plastic) behind door card if you are able to take the door card off it may be work a look.

I would say the mechanics solution is to drill and extra drain hole

    Excellent stuff.

My mother took it around to my mechanic this evening who jiggled the light switch and this made it work.

He says new light switch as they are prone to this fault?

    You think wiper switch?

Do you know how much the parts would be? Its not a major issue once it can be gotten to work but its just the latest in a long line of electrical issues.

I swear Ford employed LUCAS to do the electrics

This is what a lad in work done the other day to sort the problem, he's handy with the electrics end of stuff. Does your mechanic defenitly know its the light switch? If so fair enough but if it still dosen't work after that clip in a new wiper switch. I have never seen a light switch fail on them.

not sure how much the part costs, maybe €50? What other electric problems have you had?

Alternator a number of times has given issues, rough running, softwear issues, warning lights flashing, not starting, window regs, doors dropping on hinges, trim falling off, the light switch and stalks which sometimes refuse to do anything and it can turn itself off at times as you drive along

Maybe the water getting in is effecting the GEM module? Its located around the front passenger foot well.

Water is only a recent issue however it has made all of the rear carpets damp but there shouldn't be anything there to be affected

I reckon some A-holes don't put all 3 bolts back in the pollen filter cover when they fit a new filter and maybe this is causing water to seep on the GEM module. I've seen a few GEMS go on a focus but never a new Mondeo. But saying this they are are located in the same places...

I'll investigate it at the weekend however it has been like this since new and has been back a number of times to the main dealer. Last service done at reputable independent.
