As the title suggests. i have a ford focus 1.6 tdi. Friday as the other half drove it to work it switched itself off.

That evening she came out of work it was back on.

Saturday we had friends over and one went out for a ciggeratte and noticed the radio was one.

This evening i went to the shop and when i arrived back just now i noticed the radio on again..

Does anyone have any idea why the radio keeps switching itself on.

Its a ford focus 1.6 tdi origi radio

Thanks in advance for any advice.

Faulty or sticking radio on switch, give it a cleaning for dust or other dirt or faulty fuse in the fuse box!

Daft question but how do you clean it. Just wipe the switch... or damp the cloth.

What about the fuse just change it so....

Just use a LITTLE bit of alcohol cleaner on a cotton cloth, and clean around it, sometimes you can pull off the knob or button?

The fuse box is usually under the dashboard on the passenger side in a compartment! it will be explained in the manual wher to find it and what fuse is for what!

Is the front of the radio removable. It might be a dirty or broken contact where the face connections meet with the radio body.

No. Its the orig ford radio that came in the car.

It does not sound like its a normal problem so i am kinda greatful for this one.

I will get some alcho rub tomorrow and try the knobs.

I cannot figure out which fuse the radio is.

My brother says pull out the fuse you think it might be and then try turn the radio on..

This kinda seems hap hazzard to me.

I have just realised something else which is starting to bother me...

This radio is the type of radio that cannot come on unless the key is in the ignition....

    So it begs the question....

How did it manage to come on itself.....

It surly cannot be a stuck button.

I had a VW van in which, the radio would turn off with the ignition, but if the radio was turned on after the keys were removed it would work.
The idea being that the driver could take the keys with him whilst the passenger could listen to the radio, something like that might be at play here.
Anytime I hear strange electrical things going on in a car I think battery earth straps and battery connections.
I don't know how sophisticated the radio system is, it may also be connected to some sort of CANBUS system a computerised car control system which may be getting errent signals.
Or it could just be the switch.
Maybe not much help just thinking out loud.

ford radios dont normally need a key . If there is no key in and you turn on radio with the main on/off button it will come on for 1 hour
