    Hi All,
quick sanity check on this quote if people have a second.

We've got an immergas zeus maior 24 combi boiler.
The expansion vessel and the motor valve need replacing as a result one of the rad's is full of rust/gunk.

We were quoted €380 for parts and labour.

    Does this seem sane?

Expansion vessel should be about 50 squid
    Has the expansion vessel failed?

Are you talking about a motorized valve

What do you mean by rush / gunk?

Fingers ,some boilers vessels can be over €100. If the vessel was broken for a long time ,then the system has probably got gunk / rust in it.

It's impossible to know what the op is being charged for.

    YOU'D CHARGE €50 FOR SUPPLY & FIT A VESSEL ?

Micro ,it's very hard to know what your plumber is doing for you.

If he replaces a like for like expansion vessel and changes the one in the boiler ,the original could be over €100 to purchase.
If he puts in a standard one somewhere else it's much cheaper.

Because you both know about the dirt / gunk ,he is probably doing something about that aswell , but you haven't said.

A motorized valve head is about 40 euro ,a whole body is about 60-70 ,depends on quality.

It's really hard to tell what you're being charged for ,it's really down to how good the guy is doing the work.

**You should have your system cleaned ,normally if I was doing a job like yours I'd put a cleaner in and come back a week later to finish the job.**

I'm pretty sure thats just for supplying a vessel but likely not the specific one for this boiler as yoshytoshy has said.

A motorised valve could be 70 euro I'm sure ontop of that, then plus fitting.

how much would you charge for putting cleaner in a system, leaving it a few weeks then coming back to drain and refill etc? say a standard 3bed room house 8 rads.

It depends on what else I'm doing ,if I was putting in a vessel it would probably be around 280. That would be for cleaner and then inhibitor afterwards.

Thanks for all the replies - some answers to your questions.

The vessel is 54+vat to buy (according to rvr.ie)

Yes, it think it a motorised valve (i should have taken better notes when i was talking to him)

According to the plumber these have both failed and caused the closed system to take in fresh water, resulting in rust depositing in one of the radiators.
Its not heating correctly (we tried bleeding it but no success or change)
This needs to be cleaned out.

The plumber i had arranged to do this job isn't available any longer - so i'm just trying to find some ball park for any future quotes.
Based in Dublin 9 if that makes any difference.

I don't disagree, I was just talking about an 'el standard-o' 12L exp vessel.

No, I was talking about the cost to supply one.

I got caught out before when I priced a replacement vessel for a boiler ,I went to pick up the vessel and it was almost €100:eek:

I don't bother replacing the original ones anymore ,unless people insist on it.

not far off the cost of powerflushing really but I don't see why people still bother to do it the old fashioned way of leaving the chemical in it and draining it doesn't do half the job imo.

Cheaper than buying a powerflusher though......

when somebody is looking to compare quotes to what they already have , in a supply and fit situation , and you tell them "it's €50 for a vessel" it might cause some confusion.

A proper powerflush is nearly €500 to do ,I have a fernox powerflush and it gets used a fair bit.
Chemical cleaning is fine for a lot of systems,as long as the system is drained after including any drops.
