"A gentleman and a scholar". It's not often this sentence carries so much weight as it does in the case of Michael Wall (92) who has gone to his eternal reward. Many of us who were involved in sports club and organisations while having our annual dinner dance in the ballroom of the hotel will remember Mick doing the rounds of the table ensuring everyone was pleased with the service. I'd expect there will be a large attendance at his funeral such is the respect and regard the man was held in. Deepest sympathy to his family.

Ar dheis Dé go raibh a anam dílis.

He was indeed a gentleman and an asset to the town, as was the hotel itself. My God, I haven't thought of a dinner-dance in Floods' ballroom in years, but I'm gone all nostalgic now...
