Anyone know anything about these, my Laptop won't see the garmin when it is plugged in to USB Port. The strange thing is, it still recharges whilst plugged in.This issue started slowly but now no matter what in do, it won't see the device.I have tried different web-browsers and different computers.I was thinking maybe dirt on the contacts maybe an issue.
Anyone come across this problem before.

Random response to your question, but I find I have quite a few gadgets taking that size plug. Sometimes I find certain cables will work for some gadgets but not others. Dunno if that means some of my cables are faulty or not.

I recently connected my Garmin 705 to a laptop using a split USB cable (a cable with two USB plugs at one end and one at the other end, used for simultaneously recharging a pair of USB lights) and while it powered up the Garmin as usual it failed to mount the storage. I swapped for a regular USB cable and it worked fine. It was possibly due to the wiring of the cable or maybe being split meant that it couldn't supply sufficient power to the Garmin (though that seems the less likely explanation).

So I second the suggestion above to try a different cable.

Thanks, I'm afraid I already tried numerous cables , the Garmin one that came with it obviously and a couple of Nokia ones that I had lying around, still no joy.

Sounds like it could be a Driver issue if you can delete it and reinstall it that should fix the problem there might be a conflict or driver might be faulty.

This thread on the Garmin forums seems to describe the same problem. It contains some suggestions on things to try - probably worth a try if you haven't done so already, although they didn't help the original poster on the thread.

It could also be related to the drive letter that Windows is trying to assign to the Garmin. I.e. Windows is trying to assign a drive letter that's already taken.
Have you many other storage devices plugged in at the same time? If so try and disconnect of them and then plug in the garmin.

I have that problem with my 705. It stopped appearing as a drive in October when I was in Iran. I have tried different cables and tried plugging it into a different computer but no joy. I also tried another cyclist's 705 on my computer and that appeared fine. Resetting the 705 didn't help. So I am pretty sure it is a hardware failure of the unit itself. I am on a long tour or I would have sent it back to Garmin. For what its worth Garmin have very good warranty service (they would want to for the amount you need to use it.)

Thanks for input people, I wrote to Garmin support about the problem last Monday, but as of yet have yet to receive a response, despite their guarantee that they'll respond within 3 business days.Have written again this evening.I have a bad feeling I won't get any satisfaction, does anyone have any suggestions for an alternative product, as if I do need to replace it I will not be buying a Garmin product again.

try going into control panel, device manager and uninstalling your usb controllers.....reboot. They will be detected again and installed. Now try connecting the garmin.

Trying to send courses to my Edge 500 but without any joy. Get the following error message.

"There was an error communicating with your device. Please make sure your device is plugged in and turned on. If error continue to occur, you may need to restart your device."

Anyone else have the same problem. I can receive from the device fine. Have plugged it out and in again (it doesn't actually switch on when connected to the computer). Written to tech support yesterday but no reply yet. Says it can take up to 3 days to hear back.

Have you got the Garmin Communicator plug-in Installed for your browser? Or the stand alone version?

Also are you setup with admin rights on your pc?

Make sure to connect your Garmin while its powered off..

I have Garmin Communicator installed. What do you mean by standalone version? I'm using Training Center 3.5.3

    I have admin rights.

It's powered off when I connect.

Still not working so waiting on Garmin to get back. Didn't realise there is a Garmin forum. Just posting problem on that.

Garmin communicator is the plug in for your web browser when your logging into Myconnect.garmin.com If the browser version has problems then you can download and install it seperately..

Have you installed your garmin on another pc to test?

Have eventually managed to get it working. I was searching for updates in Training Center using Help>Check for Software Updates. Was saying there were none available.

Googled Garmin and went to my.garmin.com Logged in and connected the edge and there was a software update available there. Installed it and the "Send to Device" worked fine now than God. Thanks for the help and advice.

    Hey Guys,

Having a problem with my garmin there with the last week, When i turn it on its picking up my hr monitor and cadece sensor but as soon as i start peddaling it still shows up as "
" in the cadence part of the screen, even tho it has picked it up already!
The sensors are all lining up perfectly and have tried pressing the reset button on the senor too but no joy..

I did do an update on the software last week but cant see how that sud make a difference..

If anyone has any info id appreciate it!

How old is the battery in the cadence sensor? Could need replacing..

Otherwise just leave the battery out of the sensor for an hour or so just to fully reset it and sync up the wireless signal..

Only have it about 2 months..Are they just standard small round batteries?

Can't you press the button on the cadence sensor to test it and see if the light is flashing to be sure it's registering each turn of the wheel and pedal? Maybe it's recognising the wheel turns but not the pedal revolutions?

Yeah the light is flashing, have changed the battery now and spped is working as it was before so it must be something to do with the sensor on the crank id imaging! Pain in the hole!
