    Hi there,

I started watching the lord of the rings trilogy and in the second movie the movie would always skip at the same point, its a pain in the ass as the movie jumps around 30 minutes. The same happens in the third movie. I took the disk out and tried again but then I got an error message 80029940 message saying that my disk could not be played. I tried this 5-6 time and then it started to work

Is my PS3 starting to die or is this a problem with the blu-rays..?

Does this happen with other DVD's or is it just a problem with Middle Earth?

It has not happened with any other blu-rays or any games

If its just them two dvds then it doesnt mean its on the way out.
Could be just two scratched dvds?

All other games and blu rays work fine

I'd be inclined to agree with consolepros.
I think it's something to do with dual layer blu ray discs and the laser not handling the transition from one layer to the other. There's probably just a lot fewer discs that actually utilise the second layer than you'd think.

I only had my PS3 a few weeks when it started doing the same thing with the Ratatouille blu ray. It would freeze up at the exact same point in the movie every time. The disc worked perfectly in a friend's PS3, and all my other games and movies were fine in mine. I got on to Sony and they said it was more than likely a dodgy drive so Game swapped the console for me.

The disks are in perfect condition. It might be time to trade in my PS3 for a slim one :-(

If the discs are in perfect condition, & the drive lens isn't dirty, then it will be the laser. Maybe there's a certain part of a disc it's only struggling with now but it wil likely get worse over time.

Might try and get a cleaning kit and give it a go, to see if that sorts out the problem.
