Gormless to take Kenny's place in debate?

Following Mr Kenny’s decision to boycott the three-way debate, Mr Gormley said he had written to the station, proposing himself as a “last minute” stand-in for the Fine Gael leader.

Wrong/misleading thread title. He offered to take Kennys place. There is no guarantee he will take his place, that will be up to TV3 to decide.
    WHY???

Because Gormley realises its a high profile debate and will use it as an opportunity to promote GP policies-ideas etc. (And because he isn't scared of Browne).

Hope Browne gives him a good grilling.

    WHY???

the Greens won't even be part of the next Dail, it should be either Gerry Adams, or the ULA Leader (Higgins or RBB)

Well, the debate should definitely not go ahead. It is a shambles and just an attempt by FF to grab a few votes.

Aside from that :D ULA leaders? Ha, yeah, we should definately give those guys a platform, seeing as those, what less than 1% of population supports them? The Greens will be destroyed but they will still be bigger than ULA.

Cannot see that happening - TV3 will want to have an empty chair for the debate if Enda refuses to show up.

boards.ie poll disagrees with your re the ULA and your 1% claim. As much as you'd like it not too. Also, you'll be interested to know that the ULA are polling at almost 9% in first preferences in the 17 constituencies they're running candidates. Sucks doesn't it :)

Why indeed. If the next Taoiseach isn't attending the rest of them might as well stay home. :D

Gormley has been a government minister for almost four years while his party was in coalition. So GP policies and ideas (more and higher taxes) have been promoted to death and are about to be roundly rejected by the electorate.

Browne will be chairing the debate so his input should just be preventing physical violence and keeping the muppets on topic. He shouldn't be "grilling" anyone since it's not an interview. Apart from that Vinnie slumped in his seat, drooling, farting and mumbling to himself is unlikely to worry anyone.

Has Gerry Adams not nominted himself? I thought this would be prime PR material for them demanding a spot and how they're polling better then Fianna Fail. Do they feel it's to much of a PR disaster to have Gerry on considering he doesn't even know our VAT rate?

Yes, but that 9% includes huge variance. RBB, Joe Higgins, Clare Daly, Gino Kenny and Joan Collins are polling in or around a quota on this. Some candidates are polling poorly. And I disagree, the ULA would have little appeal with older rural voters but we're not running candidates in most rural constituencies. Urban areas are another story.

When is the debate on? I need to know the exact time and date so I can make sure to avoid it no matter who takes part.

There'll be only one winner whoever turns up and that will be Vincent Browne.

Because it gets him publicity to ask for it, more publicity if he doesn't get it, and a platform if he does. Why shouldn't he?
the Greens won't even be part of the next Dail,
That's for the voters to decide on polling day, not for anyone to decide in advance.
it should be either Gerry Adams, or the ULA Leader (Higgins or RBB)
It should be all of the above, they're all equal until the votes are counted.
Kenny should be at the debate whether he likes it or not. If he wants to lead this country he shouldn't hide away.
