Emergency-tax topic (again)

    Hello all!

And apologies for such a watered out subject. I was just having this quick question.

I'm still waiting for my P60 to drop into the mailbox so i can claim my emergency-tax from november.

Thing is that i'm slightly in need of the money to arrive before the end of the month.

So, here's my question: Would the handling of paperwork and such go faster if i employ a thirdparty-agency, or try and get my head around this Paye Anytime-thingie? (I still don't understand half of it) :(

PAYE Anytime will be faster - a third party have to go on record with Revenue as your agent, which in itself takes a certain amount of time, and adds a layer of unnecessary (in my opinion) administration to the procedure.

Feel free to post again if you have any queries about how to use PAYE anytime, or PM me - there's no need to be giving a cut of your refund to someone else for 5 minutes work.

It's just that my employer claims that i will be getting my P60 "soon" yet my co-worker left and right are getting theirs, but i'm not.

Second of all is when i have a look at the PAYE Anytime-website it states that i have already claimed my taxes. Which i haven't. This is what's puzzling me. :/

By law, they must give you your P60 within 46 days of the end of the year (by 15th February).

As I said previously a third party agent cannot possibly get your affairs sorted out faster than PAYE anytime - they have to ask Revenue to register them as agents for you, and then deal with Revenue by paper as your agents, adding weeks to the whole process.

PAYE anytime may well say you have already "claimed" your tax credits, i.e. your personal tax credit & PAYE tax credit, as they are automatically granted.

If your only concern is with retrieving emergency tax deducted last year, then the fastest way will be to simply request a P21 balancing statement, either through PAYE Anytime or by ringing the 1890 PAYE helpline for your region, or by calling to the customer service counter at your district tax office with your P60 in your hand.

That is the only way you'll get a cheque by the end of the month.

Great news. I'll just get a hold of the P21 then so. :)
Edit: Now that i check, my current employers data "isn't on file" :O

It won't be on file with revenue yet, this is why you need to get your p60 in your hand and hand it in at the public counter.

The reason it's not on file is because your employer has until 15th February to a) give you your P60, and b) file their end of year P35 with the details of all employees' pay and tax etc... If they file the p35 by paper rather than online then it could be weeks before your details are up on paye anytime. Hence the fastest possible way is to hand in your p60 and ask for a balancing statement asap.

All that a third party agent could do is get your P60 from you, and send it in by post requesting a P21; meaning it falls into a mountain of post items full of such requests. By going to the public counter you bypass this.

sorry to hijack but i have a question on this too. while i was not on emergency tax, i had 2 jobs for most of last year. i earned about 500 a week in one and 200 in the other, because of this my mother switched over most of my tax credits to the 500pw job. however, i finished this job last september and have been getting taxed twice as much as the other workers in the 200pw job. will i be able to claim this back?
apologies if it makes no sense

...will i be able to claim this back?

Yes. You need to request a balancing statement once you have a P60 / your details are on record with Revenue.

If all of your tax credit was assigned to the €500 job (and hence none to the €200 job), then you may be due back roughly €30 per week {€70-(€200x20%)} from when you finished up the main job to the end of the year.
