Need Some Urgent Advice - Repeating LC

    Hey there,

I did my LC back in 2009 and I wasn't happy with the results to be quite honest. I only got 430 points. I knew I could have done a lot better, for instance in my mocks I got 470 and I always got good grades in school exams. Don't know what happened to me during the LC; staying up all night panicing would have been a contributing factor - not craming just nerves and not getting enough sleep. Anyway I did get offered a course but it was my 9th chose on my CAO application - a science course. I'm in 2nd year of the degree programme now, specialising in physics and I can only say that I hate it. I have no motivation to do it and I can't see myself working in the field after my degree. I'm stuggling so say the least and I did terrible in my Christmas exams - failed 3 modules out of 6. This means that I'll have to sit 9 exams at Christmas. TBH, I don't think I'm up for it and I'll probably end up doing even worse.

I want to take the nuclear option and go back and repeat the leaving cert and reapply through the CAO, I'm thinking maybe either Law (yes I know exactly what the market's like for Law graduates but I think I'll be good at it none the less) or business or a combination. I'm just wondering is it too late to apply to the CAO and also apply as a Leaving cert aplicant for 2011. I don't want to wait a whole year until 2012, my sister who is three years younger than me will be doing her leaving cert then and it'll feel so odd for me doing it at the same time as her. I'm pretty sure I could handle the material for most subjects, all my LC notes/books are stuffed away in the attic.

I was thinking repeating maybe biology, physics & Irish and pick up something like Business, Religion and classics (I hear the latter two aren't that hard to pick up.

Anyway, do you think it's a bad idea for me repeat at this time? I'm at DEFCON 2 at the minute ready to hit the button. Have the deadline(s) past?

Also, for how long will I not be eligable for free-fees and the maintenance grant?

Thanks for the advice in advance,

    HHNF.

You've missed the main deadline for external entries, but if you pay a late fee per subject you can still register for this year's exams.

Repeat entry (before the end of this month) in more than three subjects would be €308 plus a late fee of €30 per subject. Entries for subjects with a practical, oral or project component will not be accepted at this stage.

    All the info is here.

So I suppose that means I'm not allowed to do physics or biology, even though I practically have 1/4 of a degree in physics :(

Physics and biology do not have a practical, you only have to do the paper on the day. :)

If you have 430 points it'd get you into some of the Business courses without repeating.

    UCD is 445 for Business.
UCD, Business and Law is 480.

    DCU, Business is 420.

    Commerce in UCC is 430.
    Law in UCC is 485.

    Business in UL is 385.
    Law in UL is 440.

    Business is 365 in NUIG.
Law in Business is 365 in NUIG.

Law and Arts is 450 in NUIM.
Business and Accounting is 380 in NUIM.
Law and Business is 450 in NUIM.

Well I'm already in UCD. I've made quite a lot of friends here and I've been involved in many societies already. I'd love to go back again but I have to because the point for a lot of the courses you mention are already quite high. Also, I knew I could have done a lot better in the LC than I did. The results I got have been annoying me since I got them.

I don't mean to be a downer but I really don't think that you could take up 3 new subjects and get them covered to that standard in such a short amount of time. Religion has a project that is due in 2 months. If your only real worry about sitting it in 2012 is doing it the same time as your sister then you're better off waiting and doing it then, you'll have a much better chance of doing well. That said of course it's your own choice and I'm sure it's possible

Repeating is the bigest mistake i ever made because i thou i could have done a lot better , ... im still convinced i can and all but motivation is not on the same lvl .. but that is just me ;)
can't you just change the course from phys to law , i heard its not that hard ..
