I have a budget of approximately 5k. I usually run up between 25k and 30k miles per year (don't ask me how!). I'm due my second child in May so I would like something with nice amount of space. I'm currently driving a 99 1.4 Focus but would not go for one again mainly due to the lack of power. Ideally, I'd like to come up a couple of years to at least 2004.

I'd go diesel if I was you at that mileage.

    Octavia
    Rover 75
    Peugeot 406
    Citroen C5
    Mondeo

Just for something different how about an Alfa 156 JTD. A few on donedeal ranging from 2k to 4.5k.

The Alfa diesels are reliable and you get a bit more style shall we say than a mondeo. :p

Thanks for the replies. I like the look of the Alfa but I had a three door car when I had my last child so spent a couple of years banging my head and swearing a lot when putting her in and out of the car seat!

I've started looking at the other suggestions on donedeal. I came across Peugeot 407 1.6 diesel. The 2005 ones are in the region of 5.5k which I'd probably manage. Any thoughts on these cars??

Alfa 156s are 4 door, rear door handles are hidden ;)

Eh the Alfa's aren't 3 door. The handles is at the top of the back door. Quite well hidden but definately has back doors I can assure you.

    beaten to it! ...lol
