    Hi all,

Just wondering if anyone has had any experience of this?

    http://www.thomann.de/ie/thomann_dp30_rwc.htm

Need to buy a piano for my daughter and funds/space are pretty tight.

Interested in anyones views on the action of the keys and the pedals (are they up to the job)?

    Thanks,

I was faced with this dilemma a few years back. The thomann ones were about €550 which was in line with some of the other choices. I ended up buying a Casio PX and haven't regretted it.

That said, I guess since the price has come down (€389 is hella cheap) there are no other options. Casio, Yamaha, Korg etc. don't seem to make a digital piano at that price point. You could get a keyboard/stage piano and use a stand but I'm guessing you don't want that.

Now I haven't played the thomann, but to from the samples it sounds a little thin/unnatural. This stands to reason as the main manufacturers go to a lot of expense in developing their sound engines. The thomann I'm guessing would contain a pretty cheap synthesiser.

So I guess if that's your budget I don't see any alternatives, but if you could throw in the extra buck then I'd do so. You'd probably need to double your budget, however. This Casio PX-130 is basically what I have and it's a great piece of kit if you're just looking for an authentic piano sound.

    Hi Nickcave,

    Cheers for that.
Yeah doubling the price would be out of the question I'm afraid.
As regards the sound quality, I wouldn't be too worried.
She needs the full size/hammer action/pedals for her exams to be honest.

Looks good enough for that purpose "I think"?

    Cheers again

IM, having worked with digital piano companies, I can tell you that this product is not of similar quality to anything by Casio, Korg, Yamaha, Roland or Kawai.

If this is your budget, then spend your budget, but a decent digital piano with the pedals that you need will cost upwards of 800 euro.

The Thomann brand ones are a crock of shít. You get what you pay for. If you want your daughter to actually enjoy playing piano you have to spend a little extra, otherwise it's money down the drain. If I were you I'd snap this up:

I have the exact same one and it's a great piano. That's a very decent price for it.

One of the lads bought one for his missus for xmas as she hadnt been playing for a while and was looking to get back into it. For that money it ll get your daughter familiar with weighted keys and it didnt cost an arm and a leg if she doesnt stick with it. As noted above there are better units on the market but youre paying a premium. My first keyboard was a rancid casio and I thought it was the mutts nuts, so she s not going to notice the difference. The only worry with own brand thomann stuff is that its residual value is fairly poor....only means something if you sell it on. Best of luck.

Cheers for all the replies folks.

OK, I think the best thing to do would be to hold off for a little while, get some more cash together and go for something much better.

    Thanks again...
