Im working from my home office, using MS Outlook for my email. I am hoping to shortly rent an office and hire somebody to help me grow the business. When I do this I will have to decide about my email platform. Which got me thinking, is there a version of MS Outlook that offes all the same functionality, the same look and feel and is web based?
If anybody here is using something like this, how does it work for you, and how much does it cost?

Microsoft Exchange gives you Outlook online

    http://www.microsoft.com/exchange/en-us/default.aspx

Rather pointless and expensive if you ask me...Im not sure what your business is, but you could transfer your mail server to Google and then use Gmail or Outlook.

    Hi,
Are you looking for a web mail or a web calendar solution?

On the calendar front I use Google Calendars http://www.google.com/intl/en/googlecalendar/about.html. It works fine and entries can be shared with others in my invited group.

On the e-mail front if you have a web site you should automatically have a web mail facility. If your web address is XYZ.ie you can access your e-mail on the web by using Mail.XYZ.ie. Just confirm with your hosting provider.

    Hope this helps.

Some one mentioned it earlier .. It sort of depends on your existing setup - do you have your own exchange mail server or are you using hosted mail somewhere else ?

Is the reason to stick with outlook based on a need to use all of the exchange functionality (busy search, meeting / calendaring etc?)

If not - it might be a good idea to look at using Google Apps for Small Business? There is a free version that you can sign up to and they have very good instructions on how to setup your current domain so that your e-mail will go to Google ..

You then can have a web interface (gmail.com) or if you prefer can continue to use MS Outlook and connect to an IMAP server.

Google calendaring also works pretty well and can tie into Outlook ..

I'm currently using this with a business I work with and it works pretty well..

If you want help setting up the domain pointers and stuff the documentation is pretty good

Microsoft offer (opposite to Google apps) that has "same look and feeling" as Outlook,Office Suite and so on...

    https://mocp.microsoftonline.com/site/default.aspx

not coming cheap but does the job.
if you need assistance, let me know !

i used to recommend Google to my customers BUT since Google refuses to allow in EU more than 1GB per document storage, i switched to Microsoft...

    good luck !

Gmail integrates perfectly with Outlook, I would definitely go with the Gmail option, plus you can update this on your smartphone

I have my domain name set up in my gmail account, and all replies and directs go through my domain name account.

You can follow the instruction on gmail to add an e-mail address, it`s very straight forward

If your service provider has you email on IMAP - then you continue to use outlook and you wont know the difference (once it's set up). It's dead easy and you can collect your mail form where ever you are and it will still be available for your 'office'

This isn't a web based solution.

I lost Outlook when I got my new Windows 7 Desktop from my old Windows XP Laptop.

I went with Mozilla Thunderbird which is as close to Outlook as you can get and it is free.

Just get that and set up your emails from your hosting account on that.

If you are hosting your own exchange server or microsoft small business server then outlook (web based) comes with it.

I think the question you got to ask is what do you want from your email.

Do you want to be able to back it up. Do you want to be able to use it offline, if a customer rings, and the web or gmail is down or you've no connection. do you want to use folders? Gmails converstation view (yes you can turn if off) and tags if fine for light use. But if you have people who change or don't change subject titles, inappropriately it can get very messy.

I use a number of emails, some from domains, some from gmail etc. I pull them all into outlook, so I can do all the above. So I choose to use outlook or gmail, or any of the domains webmails as I want.
