    Hey,

I've run into some sort of problem. My desktop is Win 7 x64.

A few hours ago I must have done something to the network connection as its gone completely. I'm using my laptop to connect to net at moment.

Basically when I hover over the wireless connection on bottom right of task bar it shows the wireless network that I used to be able to connect to, but when I click connect it comes up for me to enter the security key, which I input but then it say theres "possbile network security key mismatch"?

I had noticed earlier that my network said "limited access" which I could'nt understand at all.

I would be very grateful if some of ye experts in the field could help me resove this issue.

I don't know how to go about solving this problem or how I can go about setting up a fresh wireless connection with a new security key etc..

Its really annoying me as I use my desktop most of the day and therefore need it to function properly with access to the internet.

Thanks in advance for anyone that lends their help.

I can't now as there's a yellow * on the wireless icon and when I click my wireless network is says "the settings saved on this computer for the network do not match the requirements of the network"?

Have no idea what I'm supposed to do with it?

Try this first then before messing with settings, on your PC access device manager (or type devmgmt.msc into the search box and press enter)

Does the wi-fi device show under network adapters does it have a yellow "!" ?

The only thing under the Network Adapters tab is:
    802.11n Wirelss LAN Card
    Realtek PCIe GBE Family Controller

no yellow ! to be seen

Right, while still in Device manager right click on your Wireless LAN card, click uninstall, then go to the top bar of the Device manager box and click on action and click on scan for hardware changes. If your asked to restart your PC then do so.

When you have that done give your PC a minute to reboot the wireless card and try connect to the net then.

Ok did that, and it said LAN card successfully installed. Didn't have to restart.

no, i don't know how to access router settings.
Do you have physical access to the router? If so, plug a network cable into it, and goto the Default Gateway (start / run / type cmd / click [okay] / type ipconfig / click [enter]), and goto there. Example, if the Default Gateway was 192.168.1.254, goto http://192.168.1.254

If you don't have physical access to the router... where is it?

I don't have a network cable. I have access to the net from the same wireless connection on my laptop...so its obviously something I did on the PC thats caused the problem.

Btw my wireless network name and SSID are the exact same.....this would'nt have anything to do with it?

On your PC go to the Start menu, open Control Panel where you will find Network and Sharing Center. So in this folder find Manage Wireless Networks where your router's wireless security is, go into settings. Select WPA2 Personal as security type and TKIP+AES for encryption type.

Step by step guide here: http://www.vista4beginners.com/How-to-setup-a-wireless-connection

When I click into manage wireless networks there is nothing there apart from:

Add, Adapter properties, profiles types, network and sharing center

    There is no "settings".

I can only select either TKIP OR AES so I selected TKIP.

When I did that and tried to connect i get "The settings saved on this computer for the network do not match the requirements of the network"

    So frustrating :(

    Try AES this time.

    Stupid question time

you have powered off the router for at least a minute ?

you have ruled out any hardware wifi switch on the laptop ?

you have tried setting up with WEP ( just to check drivers and hardware are OK - it isn't secure for normal use )

you tried system restore to when it was last working / checked what changed recently ?
