I'm going to hijack this since OPs needs seem to have been answered and it'll save creating a new thread. (Save the Trees etc... :o)

Myself and the brothers are all looking to get back into shooting, none of us have shot since we were kids/teenagers and unfortunately the local club has long since gone the way of the dodo.

I've read the stickies, but I'm still unsure on how to go about gaining the proof of competency in possession use and carriage etc that the gardai will look for. Is this a service that clubs provide? Ie: take out a training cert, officers of the club will, in due course and if the competency is there, sign off and give their name as a sponsor for a full license?

There was a vague allusion in the 10point9.ie article but I'm wondering if any newer information is available.

Sorry if this is a stupid question.
