    Is that you box?
If so make sure you have it set to 16:9 so you are seeing a true wide-screen picture and not a cropped picture.
Set you picture to high RGB tor a higher quality image.

In the settings menu press 1789 on your control and the hidden menus will pop up.
They show the number of transport streams and other settings of the box.
While this does not gain you anything you could call it a trick and you did ask for tips and tricks.

Tip: restart the box at least once a day. :)

I have that Silver box as my 'Multi-Room' extra. But it didn't get the last software update the way my Black DVR one did. Is this right or could I force an update? Thanks in advance of reply.

to force an update, unplug box hold left and right arrows on box plug back in and it will start update, release buttons when loading starts, works on black dvr, not sure about the silver box
