Ardscoil Ris Limerick 2-19 0-22 St Flannans Ennis

A great game was served up in Pairc na nGael today between these two new rivals in a titanic struggle with an excellent display of free taking displayed by Ardscoil's Shane Dowling and Flannans Tony Kelly and some excellent points from play by a number of players on both sides.

Flannans scored first with a quick fire point from a free by Tony Kelly but Ardscoil settled quickly and raced into a 5 points to 1 lead. Flannans came back and for the rest of the half it was pretty tit for tat with the men from clare going into the dressing rooms leading by a solitary point 13 to 12 having had a Tony Kelly 21 yard free saved excellently by the Ardscoil boys.

What followed in the second half was 30 minutes of the finest hurling I've witnessed in a long time. Tony Kelly at midfield and Shane Dowling were lording it with Limerick minor Declan Hannon being relatively quiet although this was more down to Flannans keeping the ball away from him.

Ardscoil began to get the upper hand and after Shane Dowling buried a 21 yard free they began to assert their dominance. Soon after Flannans fell further behind after Ardscoil full forward John Fitzgibbon took advantage of a defensive mistake and scored another goal for Ardscoil. They now led by 8.

The Clare men refused to die and made a great comeback after Shane O'Donnell got on top in the corner forward position making the Ardscoil defence look foolish on a number of occasions. They managed to cut the deficit to 3 but one always felt they needed a goal to come out on top and with five minutes to go it almost arrived when a flick by one of the Flannans forwards went agonisingly wide of the left post.

Flannans moved Tony Kelly into the full forward position to try and force the issue but this brought Declan Hannon into the game and he led by example dealing with the Flannans siege leading to chants from the Ardscoil supporters "Hannon is Superman!!". Not to be denied Ardscoil restored their lead to 3 in the final minute and the referee brought an end to a fantastic game of hurling. 43 scores in 60 minutes says it all.

Charleville/Ard Scoil Ris final then. Anything on the second game?

Sounds like a cracker! Delighted flannans lost TBH. I still remember playing them in the Semis ( 20 odd years ago!) and they got a POXY goal to beat us !
Those were the kind of games you never forget!

Who did you used to play for Shamo?

Coláiste Iognaid Rís - AKA Deerpark C.B.S.
We won it in 1975 with some savage hurlers- and footballers by the way, as we did the double that year!!! Nothing since though!

Still that double really was some feat!

Yeah I saw the first half of the other game alright. Standard wasn't as good at all. An awful lot of wides were hit by both sides. I think ardscoil will have to be huge favouites. A good bit of Limerick representation on the charleville team aswell.

    Ard Scoil Rís 3-19 V Charleville 0-2

    Ridiculously one -sided final!

Good Christ what a victory for Ardscoil Ris today. Shows the level that they are at by how did Charleville do so badly? From what I saw of them the last day I thought they would struggle but that was a ridiculous scoreline!

Charleville just didnt turn up. Feel sorry for the lads but to be fair to them, they never stopped playing for the ball until the final whistle...also they got 3 points...not 2(ya ya not much difference but still)

Ard Scoil through to All Ireland final again - another very one sided game today though. The final will really test them after two easy games but hopefully they can pull it off. Well done ASR

To produce two one sided games in a row, they must be better than good I would say and hopefully they can now go all the way. Their forwards will probably be confident to shoot from anywhere at this stage.

think the final score was 2.17 to 6pts. Have to admit I lost count towards the end. ASR didn't stop battling for every ball even though they miles ahead.

seriously looking forward to this match between two very good school teams. I would imagine ASR will be slight favourites given their recent results. St. K not being favourites does kinda sound wrong given their fantastic history. A 3 or 4 point victory for ASR in my view - glad it's on that fantastic TV channel TG4 - where would the Gaa fan be without it!!!

Yeah hopefully as good as last years. Bookies have ASR odds on. Suprising enough that with a fair amount of minor AI winners on Kierans. Kierans haven't really set the world alight this year but might be a big performance in em yet !!! All the pressure will be on ASR and the bookies aren't doing them any favours. Kierans will love being underdogs. Be great result for Limerick hurling if they do it though.

1-4 to 4 points to Kierans at HT.

Not a classic but a great finish! You would have to feel sorry for ASR. Hannon at centre back and Dowling stood out . Richie Power's brother John was probably most influencial for Kierans. Have to say ref gave some strange decisions against Kierans and had they lost by a point or two might well have felt hard done by!
