    Hi guys,

Does anyone have a contact for someone who can fit one of those attic ladder jobs with a professional finish?

Am interested in getting one or two of these fitted in the next month or so, and was going to attempt this myself... but thought if someone knew of anyone who fitted them for a reasonable price with a good finish I could go down that road.

    Cheers,
    Phil

As seen on the late late show? :)

It's not a specialist job, a decent tradesman can do it for you

Just so you're aware. You really should go down the qualified and experienced route for this one.

The vast majority of them are fitted correctly and never have any issues with them as it's not a terribly difficult thing to fit and finish well.

The problems arise when (usually in trussed roofs) the joists aren't strong enough once the ope is cut out for the frame containg the stairs and sprigs etc.

I've fixed two of these in recent years where the fitter didn't take this into consideration. It is a relativly easy fix but added cost and totally avoidable.

Quiet You, can I ask how to know if the ladder is fitted properly? I had one installed & the joists were cut (trussed roof), I asked at the time if this was ok to do & he told me he does it all the time & not to worry. He's a well established fitter with his own company. Worried now that my roof may be compromised!!

It's probably fine, especially if he has experience. It's not an expensive or time consuming thing to fit an adequate trimmer so as loong as they're aware of the need for it I wouldn't see anyone leaving it out just to save a couple of euro.

Like I said, the vast majority of these were fitted correctly and the ones I fixed were real cowboy jobs. You'll know somethings wrong if there's a noticable sag with the ope for the stairs at the center. Your ceiling would crack along the joists too.
