Please remember, no lists....i dunno if anyone remebers Centurions, but i've always thought the concept was really solid for a movie conversion. But that was before bloody Iron Man came out ...now i dunno if it would still work?

    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Centurions_%28TV_series%29

I think M.A.S.K. could be a great conversion as well :)

Masters of the Universe, done right it could be properly epic, there was a fanscript called Greyskull floating around a while back and it was really well recieved. Built on the mythology of Eternia and lost all the campy stuff from the cartoon.

Do you mean a live-action feature or kept animated? Legend of Aang definitely needs a new attempt

Live action, although itd work as a Beowulf style animated film as well.

i dunno if anyone remebers it, but The Twins Of Destiny was a great cartoon with a great story, would be great as a film,

yeah M.A.S.K would convert to film pretty good, if they done it right,

i think the biggest problems with some of the cartoon (or comic) converted films is either there too serious or to cheesey, ironman is probably the best example of a good balance (part 2 tilted slightly towards cheese, but was still ok), and batman begins is a great example of doing serious right, fantastic four is a great example of doing it all wrong, but the fact i went to see part 2 in cinema shows that people will watch anything:o:p

I'd agree with this. If you check the early DC comics and the minicomics that came with the original line of action-figures (were talking 1981-82 here) you see a much different Masters of the Universe .... universe to the one most fans are familiar with from the cartoon. In them He-Man is basically a mysterious barbarian wandering thru a post-apocalyptic wasteland. There's no royal family, no prince Adam and no "I have the power" transformation bullshít. It's basically intriguing combination of technology, magic and violence.

However I don't think they'd ever make a decent movie out of it tho as it'd be so expensive to make that you'd have to distill it down into a popcorn flick for kiddies.

I seen a fan trailer of a Pokemon film. Was a bit so-so but there was enough in it to make think. If it was made REALLY dark and not aimed at the kids it could be a blast.

The whole 'illegal dog/cock fight' take on the pokemon battles was inspired.

Cheese and bits of ham acting aside I seen potential in the concept.

Here is the video I seen:

I was only thinking this the other day and I'd love to see a live action version of Skeleton Warriors if anyone remembers that.

I'd want to see a live action film of the Macross Saga, a.k.a. the first part of Robotech, as it became known in English-speaking countries. There have been attempts to get this off the ground at various times over the years.

As for why ... I saw the Robotech series when I was about 12, and it's such a powerful story that it has stayed with me ever since. On the surface it's a SF tale about aliens attacking Earth to retrieve a lost spaceship, but it gets pretty complicated, with the action moving to deep space, civilians becoming caught up in the war (literally), trying to rebuild their lives afterwards. The aliens themselves look like humans, but are about 10x larger, which leads to questions about possible common origins with the human race. There's also a fair bit of human tragedy and comedy in there too, a bit of romance, great characters, and space fighters that transform in to "robots" - one of the earliest inspirations for the Transformers.

Someone should make it, it'll be Huge. Characters like Rick, Lisa and Minmei are still inspiring fan videos on YouTube today. (Lisa's the one in uniform.)

You are the type of what the age is searching for, and what it is afraid it has found. I am so glad that you have never done anything, never carved a statue, or painted a picture, or produced anything outside of yourself! Life has been your art. You have set yourself to music. Your days are your sonnets.

I agree that the short is awful but I reckon something could be made of the concept. Suspend your disbelief :p

It's okay to not approach film discussions in serious mode all the time.

    p.s. I'd go see it ;)

    Garfield. Yes. Seriously.

I know it's based on a comic strip, but there were also three possibly four brilliant cartoon specials during the late 70's early 80's. See for yourself.

The recent two attempts at live action films got the CGI feline down to perfection and Bill Murry gave a good voice performance (despite what 'Bill Murry' in Zombieland says). After that, everything went wrong.

Breckin Meyer as Jon was miscast (I would have gone for Edward Norton) and none of the other animals in the film were CGI (especially Odie, which was a crime) and, somehow, it was badly written by the guys who brought us 'Toy Story'.

My five year old niece told me at Christmas that she loves Garfield and I thought; that's before your time. She showed me 'Garfield,' but it was this horrible thing which had it's lips moving and talking...just like in the recent movies.

Baccano remade into a 2 part, 6 hour epic.

Anyone who's seen it (I'm only halfway through) will now it's a longshot, but it's such a great series. A lot of Coen Brothers style black humor within.

What an odd trailer... They made it dark (violence, gritty locations etc.) but threw in Pokemon that looked lifted straight from the cartoon. Could they have not redesigned them a bit so they would fit in with the rest of the trailer?

    :D

Id love to see it done in love action, as a balls to the wall action flick. It'd be ludicrus, but highly entertaining IMO

    C.O.P.S!

    Captain N.

    Ulysses 31.

Would be my top three to see live action. But once it's not ruined forever. Like Transformers. :p

Dungeons & Dragons. I used to love that cartoon and Venger could look pretty bad ass and scary if brought to life properly on screen.

I think it would make a good franchise and given a good story.

They might actually make it home! Could be good closure.

Yeah, having Garfield's lips move negates the whole premise - does Garfield really have all these adventures or is it all in Jon's head?

+1,000,000 on Ulysses 31! I think Masters of the Universe would work if based on the newer cartoon.

    What about BraveStarr??

I don't know how well a space sherrif riding around on a cyberhorse that can take humanoid form would be received these days though

    Let's not forget Thundercats!.

Snarf really was the Neelix of the show, so maybe have him abducted in each movie to get him out of the way. Oh and Cheetara... (possibly NSFW)

+1 for Bravestarr. Amazing cartoon. And now you've gotten the theme tune stuck in my head (didn't need to watch the vid. Bravestarrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr!).

You know there's a "remake" of Thundercats?

Anyone know if it is still getting made?

Visionaries done right could be a great live action film. Production values would need to be pretty decent to make sure it didn't look cheap or tacky.

Preferably animated as opposed to CGI... I can't help but cringe and puke anytime I see anything remotely related to the upcoming Yogi Bear CGI escapade -.-

I've re-evaluated my opinion on CGI reimaginings a little since the three Road Runner shorts were made and done properly:

Not that I'm any more in favour of CGI characters on live-action sets. ;)

ReBoot would make an interesting live-actionish movie although it would probably be seen as Tron.

One cartoon that comes to mind that I think could work as a live-action film is Samurai Jack. I'm still waiting on the supposed movie being made which will hopefully tie the series up but the visual of a 'real' old fashioned robed samurai with a magic sword from a fantasy past wandering a neon lit dystopian cyberpunk future would look pretty good.

I also want Freakazoid done like The Dark Knight. :p

I felt the same about the CGI characters. If they did attempt this as a serious project (ditching the cheesy references to things such as the "gotta catch 'em all" catchphrases and the like) I could only see it working with better conceived versions of the Pokemon, i.e. not weird and cartoony but how they might actually look if such a thing were to evolve in nature.

It would need some creative re-invention such as that applied by C. Nolan to the Batman universe where things became almost plausible.

Its amazing Dinoriders never had a movie made of it in the post-Jurassic Park era, people love dinosaurs, dinosaurs with frickin laser beams on their heads is box office gold :pac:
