    Hi John

Hypnotheraphy is highyly unlikely to help you to overcome your social anxiety. Have a look at http://www.socialanxietyireland.com/ and contact the guy who runs the group and get yourself onto the course if possible.

You could also try the CBT audio series from the http://www.socialanxietyinstitute.org/ that you could try.

There is a Dublin group currently running who use and apply the techniques in the above audio series and i can PM you their e-mail address if you want it.

Hi John, Hypnotheraphy is very hit and miss and there is no documented evidence that it helps social anxiety although many hypnotherapists will tell you they can cure social anxiety over a couple of sessions. Absolute nonesense, only changing the way you think about certain situations can eliminate social anxiety. Medication will alleviate or mask the problem but won't get rid of it.

Blushing is a physical response which ususually happens when you experience a negative thought and by using CBT you can learn to control your negative thoughts or look at them in a different way thereby elimating the physical reaction in your body that causes blushing.

PM me if you would like some more info. There is help out there if you are willing and determined to overcome your social anxiety.

As far as I know, thats EXACTLY what you do with hypnotherapy to treat this?

it has helped me with social anxiety (I was the biggest skeptic believe me, last chance saloon situation it was when I went). Its all about how you're placing demands rather then requests on yourself.

My hypnotist I saw twice and gave me two cds to listen to when stressed or need to relax and so far a month on I see a big improvement. He also used some cbt as part of the treatment. the treatments were 2hrs each but the same rate as my old 1hr counselor who I saw for close to 6 months (came out worse then when I came in).

In that month i've had a few "challenges" so I know it isn't just luck keeping me calm. I still get stressed but its manageable and I can shrug it off because I can think more logically.

I know will read this and think i'm mad and a couple of months ago I would have agreed with you but seriously, I feel so much better.

I have no names of anyone in the dublin area as I'm not from there but I'd advise you to not listen to nay sayers. Maybe it'll work, maybe it won't but its worth a go.

no, not at all....i had the exact same problems as the OP and i tried hypnotherapy first. complete waste of money....spent nearly a grand on it. went to the most professional hypnotherapist i could find....everything looked legitimate except it didn't work. i was quite uninformed at the time about my condition. Hypnotherapy seemed like the answer i was looking for....it's not. it did absolutely nothing to help my condition...just wasted a lot of money and time. if you check the NHS or other medical authorities, you will see they recommend CBT to treat SA/blushing.....you won't hear anything about hypnotherapy.

op, i completely back up the advice given by 'Stu'. i did pretty much what he did....and it's working. it's not a quick fix but it's the best course of action to take.
