Any ideas on why my computer's gone to tripe?

    Afternoon all.

My computer (Dell XPS1530, Core 2 Duo 2.4GHz, 3gb RAM, 32-bit Windows Vista) has started acting the maggott, and I can't kick it back into gear.
It's after deciding to not allow me to rename, delete, move, or copy.
When I try rename, it allows me to select the text to change, and to change the text. But when I press return to accept the change, it doesn't do it, and the folder in particular stops responding.
When I try delete or copy, the window pops up to say it's preparing to copy/delete/move, but it doesn't go any further...it just sits there. Then when I go to cancel it, the cancel window also just sits there. I have to control-alt-delete to stop it.
I've uninstalled loads of programs, defragged the registry, etc. in the hope that that might sort it out, but nothing.

    Any ideas guys?

it sounds viral to me m8,download a good virus scanner like avast or avg free and do a full system scan.

If that doesnt fix your problem maybe try a windows repair from your windows disk.

The final option you have is to save all your important data and then do a full OS wipe and reinstall windows from scratch.

A scan with malwarebytes done in safe mode would do no harm.

If you have the install disk you can boot into that and use the repair mode to find problems. The issue you have is beyond the ability solutions that you have tried. You may have to do a reinstall of Vista, sometimes its faster and cleaner to back-up and begin again.

    ^That's helpful.

What do you mean you defragged the registry?
You shouldn't go deleting stuff from the registry if you don't know what you're doing.
Vista automatically defrags hard drives all by itself.

Can you open a command line and copy/move stuff?
